Originally from Bristol, James lived and studied there before moving to Beijing in 2017. After completing his Bachelor in Art and Visual Culture from the University of the West of England, he went on to mainly making short films and video installations.
James was awarded funding for a project with 'Random Acts' for C4 and completed the film which was shown both online and in UK exhibitions including the Plymouth Art Weekender 2017. As well as working with film James has made digital illustrations grassroots arts organisations 'Art Licks' and 'EBC' .
He is also a writer and is currently working on a Short Novel inspired by his interests in Science Fiction and Structuralist Film.

At university I exhibited artworks for exhibitions in and outside the university. I wrote a number of critical essays on the ideas and influences that inspired my artwork. After finishing my studies I was awarded a studio residency at Spike Island.
