As a multi-discipline Editor, Publisher, Journalist and Copywriter I create the right strategies and copy to connect with target audiences. I have worked on a wide range of projects across the fields of Journalism, Marketing, PR and Digital Marketing with different objectives. I launched The National Student in 2003, and successfully brought a print version of the publication back to market in 2016 after a 6 year absence out of print. I have also launched products from a CD compilation, and digital travel guides to careers advice guides for careers advisors and websites. In 2012, I authored ‘The Student Manual’ a student advice book for Haynes Publishing. I have worked on editorial and marketing campaigns with a diverse range of companies including Spotify, the National Apprenticeship Service, KFC, the Greater London Authority, the National Careers Service, National Express, Generator Hostels, the Russian Tourism Board, Credit Suisse, Lidl, Download Festival, Universal Records, STA Travel and Tesco. Hired on contract to provide insight, content strategy and staffing for BigChoice Group's content offering across their different companies - The National Student, International Student Admissions Service and theBigChoice.
I founded The National Student as the UK's independent national student publication in 2002 and have been responsibile for its management, running and production since then. Taking on all aspects of the business from sales through editorial to distribution and accounts I have a good understanding of running all aspects of a publication both for print and online. In 2010 The National Student became part of the BigChoice Group.
Following a period of streamlining and improving BigChoice’s product offering and editorial strategies, several functions of the company’s communications have been amalgamated under a new Communications department. I will now oversee this department with a view to creating a more consolidated and focused communications strategy across the whole business, with higher quality and stronger results in both our B2B and B2C communications. My remit covers strategy and deployment across: • Editorial • B2B Marketing • Public Relations • Digital Marketing
I was approached by Haynes Publishing to author their new student advice guide 'The Student Manual'. I researched and authored the guide which was available for Christmas 2012.
With their acquisition of The National Student I was taken on by Big Choice to front the editorial aspects of their youth orientated web sites and services. This work has involved an editorial overhaul of all websites, developing new editorial strategies across our recruitment, education and youth lifestyle platforms, creating editorial and commercial partnerships, and the development of B2B marketing content with stronger brand messages. My role has also involved researching, developing and launching new avenues of content deployment including our new App School Leaver and Graduate Guides, which are the first app guides of their type for Apple and Android platforms.
I was employed on a part time basis to sub-edit the Lincolnshire Echo's jobs pages.
