About me
Janis is the arts professional of the future. Affable, deeply educated, intensely multi-disciplinary, and technically innovative, Janis is an exceptional and energetic art all rounder with a cornucopia of skills — He is adept and experienced with the end to end management of the private and public affairs of a gallery, he has exceptional written and visual expression (his criticism has been published in art periodicals), he is an ingenious computational polyglot and has direct experience with cutting edge computational work, he is excellent at conducting, articulating and publishing in depth academic research and simultaneously maintains an innovative personal creative practice which straddles the nexus between art, curation, and technology. Janis has concluded his studies at the Royal College of Art with distinction and holds a Masters in Contemporary Art Practice (Public Sphere). Previously he completed two undergraduate degrees at the Australian National University where he studied Art History and Curatorship as well as Photography and Media Arts - he was invited to undertake extra years of honours research in both programs and was subsequently awarded a first in each. He is currently seeking work globally at the forefront of the visual arts and cultural sector in a role which is commensurate with his distinctly unique skills, knowledge and talent.

    Based in Battersea the newly opened JGM Gallery is transitioning from a dealership that specialised exclusively in contemporary Australian Aboriginal art to an exhibition platform for enriching contemporary art irrespective of origin. Janis was hired to work alongside his studies provide a broad spectrum of critical, curatorial and technical support for the development of the gallery. His excellent knowledge of contemporary art ecosystem as well as his specific expertise Australian art and aboriginal art has helped ensure the transition from a private dealership to an evermore coherent, fully formed and now fully self-sustaining contemporary art gallery. Reporting directly to the director the role encompassed everything from helping to identify and articulate the gallery’s goals, whilst simultaneously helping to programme over a years worth of exhibitions featuring artists from all over the world, identifying new artists and opportunities, commissioning new work, ghost writing, and cultivating new clients as well as the more practical management of databases, invoicing systems, diaries, social media targeting, promotional content production etc. For more information contact the gallery’s owner & director directly

    Whilst studying at the college Janis worked for the Royal College of Art as the specialist audio-visual technician for special events, exhibitions, film screenings and public lectures. Using and extending his unique technical knowledge with new media the role mostly involved live event management - liaising with key presenters, often major visiting artists, gallerists, lectures, HNW’s etc, managing a high-stress environment and instantiating innovative technical solutions on the fly.
