About me
Education Mr. Jeffrey Cooper (68), M.Arch., is the Principal of Jeff Cooper Architects, Inc. He is one of the leading authorities on Acoustics and Studio Design. By the age of 22, he earned (4) degrees from MIT, including an M.Arch. with a specialty in Architectural Acoustics and an MBA (M.S.) from the MIT Sloan School of Management, with a specialty in Project Management. Project History In 1976, Jeffrey Cooper moved to Hollywood and started Jeff Cooper Architects, Inc. which specializes in the design of high-end acoustical projects including Theaters, Sound Stages, Recording Studios, and Post-Production facilities for the entertainment industry. He has designed facilities for some of the world’s most elite clients, including Polygram, Capitol - EMI Records, MCA Universal (now NBC/Comcast), Warner Bros., Directors Guild of America, University of Southern California and UCLA. His personal clients include directors George Lucas, Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorcese and Michael Bay. The studios he has designed and the teams that work in them have had over 100 nominations by The Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences for Best Achievement in Sound. More than 25 of the mixing teams using his rooms have won the Oscar. He has received coveted design awards including the Hollywood Arts Architectural Award for the design & construction of the 6-story blue glass Technicolor Headquarters in Hollywood. Innovations Mr. Jeffrey Cooper has developed many innovations to improve the listening and viewing experience for the movie audience. One such innovation is stadium seating in Multiplex Theaters. The Criteria Theaters in Santa Monica, completed in 1983, was dubbed “the first stadium theater multiplex in the world”. Mr. Jeffrey Cooper also completed the 3D Foster Theater at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio; the world famous Lion Studios in Singapore: the redesign of the famed Studio A at Capitol Records, Hollywood, CA. and the Aish HaTorah World Center in Jerusalem. He has projects all over the world. Mr. Cooper recently worked on 2 unique proposals for the President of the West African country of Benin. These include The Benin International Conference Center and the Benin Museum of African Culture and Slavery in Africa. His expertise in presentation technology and acoustical design provide him with a unique perspective for Museum Design and how to portray messages using Architecture and Audio Visual innovation. Construction Jeff Cooper Architects manages its own construction projects. They have completed over 300 post-production projects, video post-production studios, dubbing theatres, shooting stages and executive screening rooms. The Wall Street Journal called Jeffrey Cooper “Hollywood’s most in-demand Screening Room designer” and the “Mandarin” of acoustic and Theater Design techniques. Personal Mr. Jeffrey Cooper is also active in community affairs and environmental preservation issues. He founded the Architectural Review Panel for the City of Calabasas, California, and served as its chairman for 14 years. He is the author of the book, Building a Recording Studio, which is a recognized industry reference on Acoustics. It has been used by thousands of students and dozens of universities all over the world as a course guide. Mr. Jeffrey Cooper is married to Shelley Cooper, an MIT graduate, for 36 years. They have (5) accomplished grown children and loving grandchildren.
