About me
My name is Jenn Sambridge, and I’m a third-year BA (Hons) Theatre and Screen: Theatre Design student at Wimbledon College of Arts, part of the University of the Arts, London. I have a versatile array of skills and a range of interests across the arts, including a strong background in theatre, music, and fine art. Key theatre design skills include: set design and construction; costume design, sourcing, and making; prop sourcing and making; model-making; technical drawing (hand-drawn and Vectorworks); storyboarding; scheduling; and budgeting.
Projects
  • Animal Farm
Animal FarmA 1st Year project to design the set and costumes for the stage production of 'Animal Farm'. As the show is narrated by a young boy and seems to come from his imagination, my design was heavily influenced by children's drawings and pop-up books. Throughout the performance, the white floor would be covered in animal footprints stamped from the animal costumes' feet - towards the end, the pigs' would turn red, and then during the final fight 'blood' would be thrown, resulting in it splattering all
  • Everything Feels Weird at First
Everything Feels Weird at FirstProduction photos and a short video showing the main visual effects of Scene 6 – ‘Delivery’, from the 3rd Year realised collaborative project, ‘Everything Feels Weird at First’. In this scene a new, futuristic video game that links with your ‘social profile’ merges with real life. The money the man has stolen in the game world also affects real life, and the woman takes her revenge. The video game aspects are realised with papercraft, and the game is shown merging with real life at the end when the man dies with papercraft blood.
  • Twelfth Night
Twelfth NightA 2nd Year individual speculative design for ‘Twelfth Night’. A selection of costume designs: Olivia and Orsino’s courts have their own specific colour schemes and styles (corals and a whimsical, almost fairy-tale style for Olivia, involving lots of gauze and glitter, and a green military-style for Orsino, with strong, clean silhouettes and war-paint), and the ‘others’ (the characters who come to Illyria by sea from another world) use an other-worldly purple and sailor stripes. Storyboard: using edited photographs taken of my model-box. This design was an exercise in using one space with very little actual physical change to the set, with most of the ‘scene changes’ being done by alterations in the lighting state or focusing the eye on certain areas or characters with spotlights.
  • Alice in Wonderland
Alice in WonderlandAssociate Designer for Iris Theatre's production of 'Alice in Wonderland' at the Cockpit Theatre, London.
  • Snow White
Snow WhiteA 2nd Year realised site-specific group project based on ‘Snow White’. The audience are led by the Hag up the stairs, discovering aspects of the story like the dead Snow White surrounded by mourning Dwarves, and the Queen’s completely destructive personality. I also played the Queen.
  • The Yellow Wallpaper
The Yellow WallpaperA 2nd Year speculative project to produce a complete design for 'The Yellow Wallpaper', set at The Wapping Project, London. In my design scrolling wallpaper gradually encloses the audience member sitting on the bed, and ghostly women appear to be dancing behind it, before suddenly returning to normal. The audience emerges to find the cafe space filled with mums and babies. For this project I created set and costume designs, technical drawings, a storyboard, a model, a mock-up of the scrolling wallpaper, costings and budget, and publication materials.
