  • Qualified to Date
Qualified to Date‘Qualified to Date’ premieres for one night only at The London Theatre, New Cross on the 11th November 2014 in association with The Lewisham Fringe Festival. ‘We've all been there. Well, most of us. The first date. Awkward silences that feel like they need to be filled and questions that want to be answered. "So what do you do?" He asks. What do I do? What do I do? Qualified to Date is a one-sided insight into a first date between two strangers; an entertaining commentary on the natural analysis we all do on ourselves, the behaviours we exhibit when under pressure and the criticism of the negative character traits we believe we have. What qualifies someone as attractive? What qualifies someone as ready to enter a relationship? Are you ever qualified enough in life to be to be able to date?’ Qualified to date is a new piece of theatre written and performed by Jenny Coyle and directed by Joe Allan. Jenny Coyle graduated from The University of Manchester in 2011 and threw herself into the London theatre scene. Beginning by assisting on various productions in the West End and then eventually creating her own cabaret concert series called ‘Back to the Musicals’ which ran as a residency over the course of a year at The Pheasantry, Chelsea. Since then, Jenny has taken on the role of Creative Producer with Closing the Gap Theatre and participated in the production of ‘Chances’ at the Camden Fringe Festival, 2014. Founder and Artistic Director of Closing the Gap Theatre, Joe Allan, graduated from the University of the West of England with a BSc (Hons) in Drama & Psychology. Joe has been involved in a number of community and youth theatre projects particularly Discarded Nut Theatre Company & Encore Youth Theatre. He assisted at the Spill Festival 2013 and The Performer Project at The Albert Centre, London before creating Closing the Gap; an aspiration that grew from his passion, inspiration and guidance from university. Joe has recently been accepted onto the Genesis Directors Network in association with The Young Vic Theatre. Qualified to Date; a new piece of theatre demonstrating the anxieties and worries of a first date situation. Fragment.al Theatre touches upon current issues such as mental health and equality, attempting to remove the stigma of issues that are prevalent in our society.
