I am a recent Textile Design graduate from Nottingham Trent University where I specialised in weave. Although, in edition to this I am very multidisciplinary; I enjoy combining techniques in exciting and innovative ways. Exploring the fundamentals of textiles across a range of platforms. I am open to opportunities within freelance design and internships etc to continue gathering knowledge and experience within the industry while I slowly set up my own brand.Locked Pro Plan feature
I am honoured to have been selected by my university to exhibit at New Designers. It is a great opportunity for me to expose myself and my work to all sorts of companies and individuals to enable me to build a wealth of contacts.
During my final year I completed 2 weeks of placement at Stephen Walters Weaving Mill where I was placed as a design assistant. This consisted of a range of jobs including concept development, designing, selecting previous designs to a clients brief, admin work and technical designs for weaving. I learnt a lot during this time being placed on a different area each day and getting to understand the design process within a weaving mill.
Over the summer between second and third year I completed an internship at a company called Pike Textiles. This company deals with creating bespoke and personal pattern books for all sorts of clients within the Textile Industry. However they are very outdated in the way they do things as they haven't changed for over 50 years. My job was to market and come up with an innovative and futuristic way of clients and customers to create their own pattern book that avoids waste and enable recycling and ease. I created a finished product as well as an app and research which I presented to the management of the company.
During my second year of University I would work with Katie once a week to process orders and create products for clients. I learnt a lot within this as I saw how a self-employed freelance/individual worked. It was interesting to take note of client relationships and ensuring your products are perfect and of high quality.
For three years I studied BA Hons Textile Design at Nottingham Trent University.
During my final year of university I entered a competition to re-design the interior of the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera. I proposed my designs and ideas to the lead engineer, Bal Choda and lead designer of Aston Martin. I am proud to say I won first place and received a bag full of exclusive Aston Martin merchandise.
