Beauty Editor at Britain’s biggest student newspaper, The Mancunion. My role entailed: writing and editing a weekly column; editing, uploading and formatting contributor content for both newspaper and website, and management of social media for the fashion and beauty pages. Nominated for Best Section in the 2013 Student Media Awards.
- Work experience, reporting to Darius Sanai, editorial director. My role included research for their extensive range of contract publishing titles, reviewing leisure venues in London, and general administration. - 2013: Baku Magazine. I researched feature ideas from international arts and culture events and was listed as a contributor in the Winter 2013 edition. I gained invaluable experience of the editorial routine of magazines.
Work placement. When writing, I learnt to interlock contemporary news and interests with current psychological research. My work for the magazine – including small features pieces, an author Q&A interview and film reviews – was published in the November 2012 issue.
- Principal blogger for second-hand fashion site ShiftingClothes.com, writing about fashion, beauty, music and current affairs, in addition to conducting and writing interviews. - Promoted to manager of the blog (overseeing a team of five other writers) in addition to running the site’s social media activities. As the company’s second-in-command, I attended meetings with potential investors. - I maintained my ability to work efficiently towards a deadline, balancing both academic and blogging responsibilities through diligent organisation.
Worked on both shop floor and in back office, boosting my commercial understanding of the retail business.
- Worked as a fashion model on the books of one of the world’s top agencies, an employment which I ultimately terminated in order to prioritise my academic studies. - Modelling enhanced my passion for the fashion industry and in addition encouraged effective time management, people skills, personal presentation and confidence.
