I am a recent journalism graduate looking to expand my portfolio. I have completed experience within both journalism and PR, mostly specialising in lifestyle and fashion. I have a passion for finding unique stories, and am consuming media. My dream is to spend my days interviewing the most interesting people and sharing their stories. I am open to all opportunities that may come my way at the moment and more than happy to be thrown in at the deep end.
This creative consultancy position encompasses both PR and journalism tasks. Writing content for fashion and lifestyle blogs, creating press releases and pitching stories to media outlets are all daily tasks. As well as this I manage social media for various brands across different platforms.
I acted as lifestyle editor for the 2014 addition of annual magazine Impulse, which was distributed throughout Edinburgh. As well as sourcing and writing unique stories myself, this role also allowed me to gain skills by managing a small team.
Working with the news desk at various busy times throughout the year, I researched and wrote a number of stories for online and print. This involved interviewing, scanning press releases and social media for relevant stories and creating multimedia content for the website.
As communications intern for this small food bank charity, I was responsible for updating publicity materials and liaising with press. I also interviewed service users to create a media pack with testimonials, which was later used by local newspapers.
Writing skills for news, lifestyle and digital media were the focus of this course. I also learned video and radio editing and how to present for different platforms.
