Jess (the weaver) is a recent graduate from her masters degree in Sustainable Design at Kingston University, which has shaped the way she views the making world, culminating in her thesis project, A Fibreshed for London (see vimeo), which explored the potential of establishing Greater London as a natural textile producing bioregion (think watershed). Furthermore, given her background in woven textiles following her BA in Art Practice at Goldsmiths, she appreciates the industry as an insider and possesses great attention to techniques, pattern and colour. Her writing practice has furthermore led her to research many areas of the world from the point of view of their woven textile traditions, including the Kente cloth of Ghana, which will feature in her next piece (soon to be published in the next special issue of Textile: Journal of Cloth and Culture).
