I'm a London-based product designer with a background in Innovation Design and Civil Engineering. I give most things a try and believe in fantastic failures. My work explores social innovation, the fun theory, and creating memorable experiences with a meaning. In my free time, I take photos (mainly 35mm film), draw self-deprecating comics about being a quarter-life crisis (#thestruggleisreal), and experiment with different hair colours.
Projects
- project MURAproject MURA is an experimental and interactive musical experience that aims to change the interpersonal dynamics in the London Underground. Through encouraging collaboration and using music as the medium, project MURA’s goal is to break the tension and to evoke a momentary feeling of trust among passengers. It is comprised of a musical system that involves a soundscape generated through the collective taps of oyster cards, transitional graphic elements, and musical handrail control components on the tube. Ultimately, project MURA aspires to create a better sense of community among commuters. http://www.jolitamo.com/social-innovation/project-MURA
- somewhere/ everywhereThis project investigates how a person relates to a place and how a stronger sense of belonging towards a foreign place can be created by evoking comfort and nostalgia. I started the project by interviewing people who had to travel for work, such as travel consultants, trying to get more insights on how this nomadic lifestyle was really like. This was the most significant insight I obtained was a lack of an attachment to any particular city. Based on this, I investigated ways that can enable a person to feel a better sense of belonging to a foreign place and ultimately settle in better. My target audience would be people who have to constantly travel for work or international students who are in a foreign city for a relatively long period of time. My concept is a web-based mobile app that can allow target users to be able to locate and explore places in a foreign city that can remind them of similar places that they know and love back at home/ places that can remind them of good memories. The aim is that through visiting these places, the user can be able to create a better sense of belonging to the originally foreign place and ultimately settle in better.
