About me
I am a published writer, screenwriter and aspiring novelist who has recently graduated from the University of Essex with a First-Class Hons BA in Creative Writing. I have contributed to online published anthologies, the most recent of which was with ESTRO, and am looking for job opportunities within the film industry. As a writer, my work has been published under the pseudonym of J. A. Stapleton for the last 4 years. My writing on ABCTales.com has attracted a 22,000-strong readership and my presence on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter as a writer and film reviewer has an 800+ following. I was featured in the Albert Sloman Library for my work and to watch out for in the future. My film review of Darkest Hour (2017) was also published in REBEL magazine and circulated throughout the University and its departments. Over the years I have worked in all manners of professions: the private education sector, the food and catering trade, the legal profession and experience within film and advertising in addition to talent. At one of my placements, I was trusted with writing up reports for proposed projects to be used by execs. Specialties: content creation, screenwriting, telling worthwhile and challenge stories, writing and publishing for large audiences, educating others with writing as well as working for Independent Talent.
Projects
  • Hypothermic Nightmare
Hypothermic NightmareI collaborated with another screenwriter, Chelsea-Leigh Simmett in the production of this short film, which was based on two true stories. It focussed on the mind and the lack of oxygen on it that hypothermia causes - in cases, resulting in servere hallucinations.

BA Creative Writing (First-Class Degree) Dean's List of Excellence Student 2016 & 2017 Experience with modules in radio writing, screenwriting, creative non-fiction and fiction. I gravitated my studies towards learning and expanding new skills in chosen modules within literature as well as film analysis. I have been invited to give talks/presentations to second year students regarding the progress and development of my dissertation - giving "helpful" advice on theirs and what to do if they need to travel for research. I encouraged them to keep rigorous writing schedules and pointers to complete their daily targets - something I pride myself on doing throughout the duration of my studies in both prose and scriptwriting. My name has featured on the Dean's List of Excellence in both 2016 and 2017 (first and second year) in the Department for Literature, Film and Theatre Studies and I graduated from the University with a First Class Honours Degree in Creative Writing in July. If the University experience has taught me anything, it's that I am a highly-efficient person with a close eye for detail and a can do attitude to life. I work well under pressure and can effectively multi-task in such scenarios as an individual and as a team where I served as an editor for fiction and non-fiction anthologies. In other experiences, I wrote the script for an "exceptional short film" and delivered a grounding and precise presentation on dream theory for one module. Looking to move into the Creative Industries with a keen interest in screenwriting: television and film.
