- KLABUKlabu means club in Swahili. Klabu is a foundation that is building sports clubs in refugee camps and settlements around the world, raising funds by selling unique sportswear, with 100% of all shirt sales going towards building more clubhouses. They have just built the first clubhouse in the Kalobeyei Settlement, northern Kenya. - Life Vest | The Second CrossingThe life vest worn by migrants on their way to Europe has become a symbol for their journey to a new life. On the 26th of March, both locals and migrants spent the afternoon on the ferries of Amsterdam inviting the public to wear life vests from Lesvos. The aim was to invite people to interact with the life vests, to engage in conversation about the crisis and give them the opportunity to physically place themselves in the shoes of others, in the form of wearing the vests. - Yamaha Life VestsThese portraits show the dates of when a handful of Syrians made their journey to Europe, each portrait with its own story to tell. These life vests are sold between the prices of €50 - €200 each, often stamped with fake brand names like Yamaha to appear top of the range. Many of these life vests are so cheaply manufactured that the material inside doesn’t keep you afloat, but instead causes people to sink when in contact with water. - WE ARE4-month Artist in residency. The new West of Amsterdam is a predominantly Turkish, Moroccan and Old Dutch area.
