  • Instagram 'one day project'
Instagram 'one day project'As graphic design is a relatively new form of output i've been using, i felt i should try to practice it. The best way i used to practice illustration was to have timed challenges, so i felt if i gave myself one day to create a design, letting me come with anything i could. I also thought that it would be nice to publish them to Instagram as well, as a kind of act of finishing the project, and to get my work out there as well. The outcome to this point now is that i do feel slight improvements to what i'm doing, and it's making me even more adept at photoshop. However, these designs are like sketches, no real purpose to them aside from aesthetics. i feel that although it improves my general skill at designing on a quick dealine, i need to make more pieces that diversify my outcomes. I still set myself the 'one day challenge' every now and again, trying to make it so i do three a week.
  • What If (Zine)
What If (Zine)For my MA, my final project was a Zine about conspiricy theories, with this edition focusing on the secrets of the military. I made it about conspiricies because it was something i had an interest in, not as much what the conspiricy is, but the story telling element to it, I always found that they were told like a 'campfire tale'
  • A brief look at my Graphic Design
A brief look at my Graphic DesignAlthough It's the practice I have only got into recently, I find myself enjoying the act of creating something with the design in mind, and the fact that i was receiving positive feedback from my tutors and peers during my MA was encouraging, and now that the course is over, I feel a need to be in a inviroment like that again. However, my work is limited by my sort time playing with the medium, this is something i've tried to rectify by setting myself deadlines, and by entering poster design competitions, and i belive that the improvement in my work shows.
  • A brief look at my Illustration
A brief look at my IllustrationDrawing was something that i was always doing as a kid, and I never stopped doing. Although I have not had a Illustration background as far as education, I have always had some illustrative angle to my art. As I have grown up, my drawing style matured. My stlye started as a cartoony/manga comic theme with the occasional sudo-realism drawing, using pencils and pens, but staying away from color. But as of now i use color as well as making things more realistic, or rather, making it seem like it can exist in the real world, focusing on proportions and blended colors and shading. I also still draw cartoony comics every now and again, i feel it's nice to have a wide vary of styles, i useally make them more light hearted, and have a good time, beacuse for me thats what my drawing is, it's a hobbie.
  • A brief look at my Fine Art
A brief look at my Fine ArtFine Art is the subject that i have been studying the longest, however, over the years i've been finding my passions eleswhere. I many looked into the form of context, and how it can be used, whether it's slightly twisting the context of something, to swapping context of different things around, to outright destroying the concept of what the context even meant to be. I used multiple mediums to create my work, mostly sculpture and illustrations, and mixing mediums together as my final outcome of my BA was a large sculpture with a functioning T.V. head playing an animation. If i took anything from my Fine Art experience was that i am able to look at things now and disect it's meaning and apply new angls to it. Not a fun party trick, but useful.
  • Space, the final frontier
Space, the final frontierUpon looking at my previous Design work, i found that there was a commen theme of using Photoshop as my main go to program to create my projects. So i decided to set myself a topic, deadline, and the ability to only use Illustrator as i can use improvement in it. I choose Space, and found a collection of 'interesting facts' about our solar system, i then gave myself three days to create as much as i could using only illustrator. The whole process opened my eyes to the capability of what you can acheive with illustrator, and how different it looked to my prior works, i only maneged three finished pieces (with two more half completed ones) but feel i could come back and finish it as a book. In summary, i have a new found respect for the what Illustrator can do, and will definetly use it alot more in future.
