About me
Joy Lee is an independent filmmaker who loves her whiskey as much as she is obsessed with her cameras. She graduated with a Diploma in Technology and the Arts Management before bulldozing into LASALLE College of the Arts to study filmmaking. She now owns a B.A. (Hons) Degree in Film. In 2012, her award-winning documentary film, “That’s WICKED!”, world-premiered in theInternational Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA). She did her fair share of full-time video editing work in companies like Freestate Productions, and, One Animation, before deciding to risk it all and be a freelancer. She has directed short films, both fiction and non-fiction, produced travel films for organizations like NTAustralia Tourism Board, made music videos for DJays like London-based artiste – D Nova, and edited films produced by production houses like InfocusAsia, and, Pangolin Films. Her experience in the film industry snagged her a job at fuelfor where she spends half of her time thinking about ways to combine her two darlings, food and film. The other half of her time is dedicated to helping the team share information on healthcare and wellbeing with the public at large, through the use of video. She has also worked with another top-ranking design research consultancy, Veryday. Dealing with clients such asDesignSingapore Council, and, the National Council of Social Service (NCSS)has provided invaluable insight into the nature and workings of social service. In 2016, she won a pitch at JumpCut Asia and was awarded the opportunity to direct a film for Discovery Channel Southeast Asia. The film, Dementiaville, takes the audience to a hotel resort running as a care facility for dementia guests. She is happy to be part of such meaningful projects to rebuild/build people's lives. She sees people as stories and she thinks that the only thing better than a good story is an great story. And, less is always more.

A project I did with Design Singapore (client company of fuelfor) required me to stay in three cities of Indonesia to shoot 24 documentaries, here are some of them: Andy (https://vimeo.com/125977221), Kathy (https://vimeo.com/125944031), and Windy (https://vimeo.com/125941330). I worked with NCSS to create films to show the daily struggles and battles caregivers in Singapore face, here are some of them: https://vimeo.com/172720999, https://vimeo.com/172526489, https://vimeo.com/170117061. The password, for all of them, is "ff". Do let me know if you'd like to see more. Another big project was commissioned by client company National Council of Social Services (Singapore). It highlights the struggles of caregivers caring for family members with mental and physical illnesses/disabilities.
