About me
Julinu currently works as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer after having worked with different Advertising Agencies for a number of years. His services span from illustration (advertising, editorial, album art, storyboarding, concept art, etc) to graphic design (logo design, conceptual advertising campaigns, etc).
He is also passionate about animation, films, fine art, music and drumming.
Julinu considers his visual output as a processed by-product of his thoughts and lifestyle. His work tends to feature meticulously drawn visual ideas and is often laced with dark, surreal humour.
Projects
- Loophole (film in progress)Loophole - The surreal journey of a young woman who finds herself stuck in an absurd looping existence. Currently this project exists as a an oil-on-paper, stop-motion animation trailer and an accompanying storyboard book. This project has been developed as part of the MA Sequential Design / Illustration at the University of Brighton and is intended to be developed into a 15-minute short film. Designed for an adult audience, Loophole explores the philosophical notion of the absurd by means of
- My Early Math LessonI thoroughly enjoy the process of interpreting abstract concepts visually and this was the case with illustrating Richard Tornello’s “My Early Math Lesson” - a poem narrating an anger burst that backfires. The illustration was commissioned for Schlock Magazine’s May edition. Check it out here! Oil on paper + digital colouring.
- The Plight of the Homeless OrcaThe Plight of the Homeless Orca is part of a mini-series of drawings exhibited in Divergent Thinkers 3 that I refer to as “Radical Transformations”. It illustrates the discomfort of not fitting in with societal expectations – much like an orca will never fit comfortably in a bird nest. This illustration was also shortlisted for the prestigious AOI World Illustration Awards 2015. Pencils on paper. 70x50cm. Drawing 2 of 4 from the series “Radical Transformations”.
