As a Producer I would coordinate the presenter, guest and other members of the Production team before and during live shows. I was responsible for creating and shaping the format of shows, which were pre-dominantly influenced by the sales of products. However, viewer interaction also played a key part of the content of live shows, and I had to weave this into relevant editorial in order to drive sales during the show. I also needed to be aware that throughout the day the skill set of viewers changed, and therefore the format of the show would be altered to suit which audience is watching at that time. In order for live shows to be both coherent and cohesive, I would make sure that all of the crew involved in the show are communicating effectively. This was done through the talkback communication system which I used to provided editorial and motivation mainly to the presenter, but also to the rest of the crew. A key part to my role as a Producer was to communicate with both internal and external contributors of the live shows, to ensure that any messages that need to be expressed during the show were done to the best of my ability. Overall my aim was to reach the company’s targets of sales, quality and compliance in live shows, whilst being fully aware of the current Ofcom and ASA guidelines.
My main responsibility as an Assistant Producer was to support the Producer in their role during preparation before, and in the gallery during each live show. Additionally I was responsible for all on-screen information and graphics, as well as responding to any customer query or complaint during live shows. I also provided editorial support for the Producer and presenter to use during shows, which includes sourcing and editing specific video clips from previous shows. Communication was an essential part of my role as I needed to make sure that the most up-to-date information on shows was being given to the Producer, presenter and other departments. I always needed to be prepared to react to any last minute changes that can occur, and resolve any issues that may arise from these in order for the Producer to be able to focus solely on their show. I was also responsible for training new Assistant Producers in the absence of the Senior Assistant Producer.
As a key member of the Planning and Scheduling department I created, maintained and managed the TV show schedules, with direct responsibility for the repeat channel, Craft Extra. Schedules were planned at least a week ahead, but sometimes short notice changes needed to be made. When planning the schedules I decided which time slots to allocate to shows, based on an idea of anticipated profitability of products and audience size. In my role I liaised and negotiated with other departments such as Buying, Merchandising, Production and Transmission. Communication with these departments was essential to ensure that they were aware of any schedule changes that may affect them, such as set design, on-screen graphics or product availability. I was also responsible for collating the sales and profitability for each of the channels which helped to improve the promotion of the Create & Craft brand.
A temporary role within the events team taking bookings and payments over the phone for an end of season music festival, with a few admin tasks as well. The calls also involved making requested changes to bookings and answering any queries that customers might have. I relocated with the team to the location of the event, which was attended by 6,000 customers, to continue my usual role and provide assistance to the Event Manager.
Originally a temporary role as data entry clerk within the marketing department, helping with the set-up and launch of a new ecommerce website by inputting individual product data from Excel spread sheets, uploading product images and copy writing for product descriptions. I was promoted into the role of Marketing Support Assistant, to manage the customer membership database, which doubled in the amount of subscribed members during my time at the company. Other duties included: • Extracting data for return on investment analysis and campaign activity. • Co-ordinating delivery of point of sale material to 17 nationwide stores, by liaising with store managers and the creative agency to resolve supply issues. • Distributing emails and text messages to customers about product offers. • Editing data in the customer relationship management system. • Creating a summary report for the company newsletter that helped store managers to incentivise their teams. • Bi-weekly production of a competitor research PowerPoint presentation. • Drafting local press releases and competition winner letters where required. • Assisting with the set up of product photo shoots.
