About me
Hello, my name is Kate and I am an illustrator based in Brighton, UK. For the past 15 years I have specialised in creating hand lettering and illustration for book covers, packaging, advertising and many other applications, telling stories through the combination of intricate decorative detail and my distinctive typographic designs. I love what I do and the diverse range of clients I am able to collaborate with, from big name brands to small independent publishers. I have worked on a wide range of projects - giant murals chocolate bars, HGVs, pingpong paddles and everything in between! My clients include: Penguin Random House, John Lewis, Innocent, Diet Coke, Chronicle Books, Hachette, Waitrose, Cafe Direct, Marks and Spencers, YouTube, Barclays, Crate & Barrell, Victoria’s Secret and Harvey Nichols.
Projects
  • Three Cedars Vodka Packaging
Three Cedars Vodka PackagingI designed this simple but intricate lettering for Hudson Valley’s latest craft vodka. In collaboration with Pavement design, we explored a couple of concepts for the brand - scroll below to see alternatives - and the final packaging was foiled in silver on a rustic grey label.
  • Brighton Banners
Brighton BannersAs part of an exciting campaign to bring a little colour to our streets over the summer 2022, the PR team at Brilliant Brighton and curator Richard Wolfstrome approached me to create some bespoke artwork for the town. I explored the themes of kindness and community with these giant banner illustrations and matching wrap-around patterns for the street planters. This project was ran by Brilliant Brighton as part of the #EnlivenBrightonArtTrail and the #ABCDCulturalRecoveryPlan.
  • Hachette River of Authors
Hachette River of AuthorsI was commissioned by The Graphic History Company and publishing giant, Hachette, to create this sprawling mural across six floors of their brand new headquarters in central London. The brief was to create a typographic piece of art which incorporated the names of nearly 4000 authors published by the various imprints of Hachette since 1768. My idea was to hand letter each name to create this inky, flowing design running from the lower ground floor, right up to the top floor along the lift lobby

  • Brilliant Brighton - ABCD Cultural Recovery Plan (Brighton Bins)
Brilliant Brighton - ABCD Cultural Recovery Plan (Brighton Bins)I was asked by the curator Richard Wolfstrome, to create 8 digital illustrations to represent 'Kindness and Community' to bring colour and life back to Brighton town centre, after the pandemic. These digital illustrations are placed on bins around Brighton, the idea was that the words and drawings will send kind messages to walkers by. This project was ran by Brilliant Brighton as part of the #EnlivenBrightonArtTrail and the #ABCDCulturalRecoveryPlan working with Brighton Council.
  • Lets' Talk - a mental health campaign
Lets' Talk - a mental health campaignLet’s Talk is a campaign that has sparked millions of conversations about mental health. By literally drawing people’s most difficult thoughts on their faces, lettering artist Kate Forrester and photographer Charlie Clift have inspired others to open up about their own mental health. It’s ok to not feel ok. Speak up. Let’s Talk. Everyone featured in the project has had mental health difficulties. Charlie interviewed each volunteer to find out how they would describe these in their own words. Kat
