About me
I am a friendly and hard-working young woman who is enthusiastic about using the academic and professional skills I have accrued over time in a challenging role. During my academic life I have learned not only to work as part of a team, but also to apply myself independently to long and short-term goals such as meeting coursework deadlines and to complex tasks at a higher education level. Having achieved a first-class honors at undergraduate level, I feel that I have learned the importance of versatility and commitment. I have just received a 2:1 for the Global Politics and Human Rights MA at University of Brighton, which covered a myriad of different social issues such as cultural memory, conflict in the Middle East and the United Nations. University life has also taught me flexibility and the ability to manage time around my academic and professional obligations. I am also a keen drama enthusiast with experience in a variety of aspects of the theatre from an early age: from working with children onstage, to performing Shakespeare, to being a part of a stage management team. I have continued these projects alongside my studies in my pursuit of an active role in both acting, and as a key player in the committee for the Brighton University Drama Society. Tasks within this role have included advertising, organizing events and performances, along with assisting with all communications-based tasks and ensuring the welfare of the members. This has given me experience in different forms of expression and dialogue through platforms such as the annual Brighton Fringe Festival, plus the chance to campaign and advertise for the society: including the development of a new website and creating a specific brand for our social media presence. Alongside working full-time for the Plymouth Library Service, I helped to extend the scope of the brand of our theatre group beyond Brighton, and worked as the press officer for an independent performance which we staged in London as a part of the Camden Fringe. This required me to create a more professional and nuanced image for the society, causing me to approach and work with different independent designers and journalists in order to reach and impress a wider range of the community. I have been lucky enough as a flexible temporary employee to gain a diverse range of experience and transferable skills, from events and hospitality to planning, marketing and administration: I hope that this statement demonstrates just how much I enjoy being kept busy and having to think on my feet. This year I have been working with Priory Hospital Burgess Hill, a secure psychiatric hospital. I have been a mental health support worker in their female Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit which has required me to hold the utmost emotional resilience and sense of responsibility when dealing with a complex set of psychiatric co-morbidities. Alongside this I have been volunteering with Terence Higgins Trust as a part of their reception team, signposting individuals and offering advice and information about the support available around the city.
