Hello, I’m Kelsey I have recently graduated from Central Saint Martins studying BA (Hons) Graphic Design. Throughout my degree I gained a strong fascination with subcultures, especially zines that were produced in the 70s/80s/90s. I think this sparked my keen interest for printed matter, mainly magazines but I also enjoy books, zines, fashion look books and old music club night posters. I am enjoying observing how the print world is adapting to the digital era. I think it is really interesting what can now be done within both mediums. People used to comment on how print is dying, but I now see it as a thriving industry. Both print and digital are better for eachother existence. I love to read independent magazines, something I have been able to do more of since assisting Jeremy Leslie at magCulture studio. I helped with the design of the most recent Fiera Magazine and also with the opening of his new shop in Clerkenwell. Prior to this I interned at Dazed for two months. For the first month I helped out with the printed magazine. Dropping the text, credits and images into the inDesign files, researching fonts and how they can look on the page and generally learning how a bigger magazine works. The second month focused on the digital side, I created image content for articles at a fast pace which was fun and intense to be a part of. Through Jamie Reid I met and put together a website for Reba Maybury (wetsatinpress.com). As well as sometimes working for Jeremy I have also started to assist a tutor at CSM. I give feedback to first year students and advice on how to continue and improve within their practice. I love that I’m able to continue learning through helping out these students. I am looking for a career with a little more structure, I love designing all things printed whether it be a simple, beautifully printed object or a cut up and stuck back together magazine.
