Kelsey is a creative focused on empowering women, driving social change and facing politics head on. Whether it be designing a manifesto for climate change, art directing an accessories shoot to platform an all-female skate collective, illustrating nipples to show that all women's bodies are different and equally beautiful, or making a zine about how to start a subculture in the digital age, Kelsey’s bold inventiveness always stands out. Her recent work at Refinery29 has ranged from the identity for an editorial tentpole week exploring female pleasure, to directing a documentary to spotlight creative women within the music industry. The 29th is Refinery29’s UK-based creative consultancy. I am responsible for ideation, development and design of global creative content platforms for six skincare and makeup brands under Walgreen Boots Alliance; with a primary focus on the UK and US market. This includes: developing 360 creative platforms, concepting still and moving digital campaign, brand content for brands’ owned and paid channels and co-branded and editorially integrated content for Refinery29 channels.
I designed and typeset pages, created my own collages to illustrate features and art directed shoots in keeping with the ELLE brand aesthetic. I had the opportunity to step beyond my role to lead the design of ELLE magazine alongside the Creative Director for four months. This gave me invaluable experience in multitasking and helped to build my management skills, as I was leading a team of freelancers, working on the redesign of the magazine.
