About me
I began my design education at the Northwest Institute of Further and Higher Education where I studied various areas of design including Graphic, 3D, Illustration and Web Design. It was here I found my passion for Graphic Design. I progressed to the University of Ulster to study a degree in Design & Communication. This enabled me to further develop my skills in Graphic Design whilst also building skills in 3D, Illustration, Time-Based Media, Web Design, Interactive Design, Photography and Animation. Having completed my degree I searched for my first creative job which I found with a small litho-printer in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, Ireland. Whilst Impacto Print is a relatively small company, it enabled me to learn more about the day-to-day role of a designer such as client interaction, time management and file-print management. I was also able to learn an incredible amount away from the screen, with regard to the print side of design as the company had an in house litho-press. I worked with Impacto Print for just over 4 months before I progressed to my next post with Lermagh Media / Colourstorm in Co. Derry, Ireland. At Lermagh Media / Colourstorm I was one quarter of the design team, something that was a key factor in me taking the post. I was very eager to be part of a team where I could share ideas with other designers and use the experience of others to enhance my knowledge. At Colourstorm I was also involved in print management and was trained to use the Xerox DC250 and the DC5000. This enabled me to be involved in the whole process from an initial conversation with a client, right through to the the final design being printed and finished. At Colourstorm I had the opportunity to work with various clients such as Derry City Council, HSE, The Londonderry Chamber of Commerce, The Londonderry Port & Harbour, the British Heart Foundation, IBEC and Grafton Recruitment to name but a few. The briefs undertaken for each of these clients ranged from branding and brochure design to annual reports and web graphics. I was also part of the internal branding that took place within the company in its transition from Lermagh Media to Colourstorm. This included initial brainstorming sessions, to logo concepts right through to and a new website being constructed for the company. Having a passion for this industry I have also continued to work on a freelance basis with clients such as Praxis Care and the University of Ulster. I have also undertaken briefs for smaller, local based companies / charities, most noteably the Changaro Trust, a chairty that is aimed at helping street children in Kenya.
