About me
What gets me up in the morning is solving design problems—designing the solution that perfectly communicates an idea or that enables my users to achieve their goals. By trade I’m a graphic designer. I started out studying usability, continued into communication and to tie the two together I graduated as a graphic designer. This combined background has heavily influenced my view that graphic design is not about making pretty pictures. It is about creating solutions that serve a clear purpose, communicating ideas and taking into account where the final design will be used, by whom and why. I have 11 years experience of designing and producing communications from concept through to final product delivery. In this time I designed and delivered final products such as: campaign-related communication packages including printed posters and leaflets, EDM, websites etc; corporate branding and a complete intranet re-design (covering both information structure and graphical elements). Extensive experience working with multi-cultural teams and audiences. Working knowledge of the Adobe suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Dreamweaver). I am currently available for short or long term contracts. If you have problems that need graphic design solutions, get in touch.
Projects
  • URBAN SOLUTIONS: STAFF NEWSLETTER
URBAN SOLUTIONS: STAFF NEWSLETTERThe brief: To produce the design template for a quarterly newsletter. As a community oriented and forward-thinking organisation, real estate developer Urban Solutions aims to engage their staff with a positive and optimistic printed newsletter. As a regular publication, the design needs to be flexible and require minimal effort to produce new editions in-house. A purely typographic design together with a strong grid system provides Urban Solutions with a flexible solution for quick and cost-effective production of each new issue of their newsletter. The colour palette and specialised typeface have been chosen to reflect the nature of the work done by Urban Solutions and hence resonate with the staff, bringing a positive air to the design.
  • BFI: EVENT CAMPAIGN
BFI: EVENT CAMPAIGNBrief: To create a brochure to promote a science fiction film festival run by the British Film Institute (BFI), plus supporting materials. I chose an unusual hexagonal format for the brochure to ensure that it would stand out amongst the many other arts brochures available and to make it easy to take away in a handbag. The shape and dark colours reinforce the essence of the science fiction genre and the complex folds invite people to interact and explore.
  • CULT.UR: E-MAGAZINE
CULT.UR: E-MAGAZINEBrief: To create the masthead and layout for a brand new e-magazine targeting the tastemakers of the creative community, wishing to become the global resource for news interviews and reviews, and thus make a positive contribution to art and culture. My design solution for this e-magazine is grounded in it being solely digital and the possibilities that this entails. The masthead is interactive and the user can tap within the logotype to select different editions. I also chose a name that in itself is a functional web address. I chose a colour palette of pure RGB to reflect the digital world, but also to link up with the artist’s primary colour base.

The program combined computer science and work science to put the development of IT tools in the context of their actual use by people in a working environment. This was a pioneering program that introduced usability to the software development process and included topics such as human computer interaction, user-centred design, cognitive psychology and computer supported cooperative work.
