Two years ago, while working in Japan, I set a three-year goal to study for a Master's Degree in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia. I had originally applied for this course straight out of university but had been rejected and told I needed more life experience. So, I went and got some! I’m now beginning that same MA course one year ahead of schedule. I'm proud of the fact that I set a goal and stuck to it, even though leaving my wonderful life in Japan has been one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made.
My goal now is to further develop my writing skills and I'm looking for experience and opportunities is storytelling, copywriting, editing and more. I've developed an interest in UX, which until a while ago I hadn't even heard of, and I am interested in learning more about the use of narratives in technology and everyday experiences.
In my free time, in addition to my obvious love of reading and writing, I love to travel and walk in wild places, as well as to practice yoga, swim, take photos, swim, listen to live music, garden and cook, preferably while spending time with friends and continuing my search for the best vermouth.
While in Japan, I worked on a voluntary basis for three NGOs: Peace Boat - fostering global intercultural communication; FEW Japan - a professional women's networking organization; and Pangea Seed Japan - a shark and ocean conservation group. In the future, I am interested in working with animals, conservation and environmental issues, and organisations promoting mental health awareness.
