About me
My design process is led by conceptual experimentation through printed textiles. The interior application of textiles has fascinated me since I began the course: the cross-over of functional furnishing applications, to installation pieces and wall hangings, allow for an endless scope of textile possibilities. I want my designs to tell a story, encapsulating the user/viewer. Exploring alternative methods of producing a repeat pattern or a surface design is something that has allowed my to push myself as a designer. As someone who is comfortable producing digital prints I have recently pushed myself to develop designs in other ways- such as open screen printing, etching and mono-plate printing as well as trying out hand painting ceramics. As a soon-to-be graduate I am looking for my next challenge and finding my place within the creative industry.
Projects
  • Where, then, does the path lead?
Where, then, does the path lead? An idyllic world: I want to present Iceland through the mysterious landscapes and the otherworldly air around this mythical country. Running through this venture will be the concept of escapism. People frequently return to nature to remove themselves from conventional life. I want to capture the essence of this, evoking the feeling of abandoning societal pressures and transporting you to a place that boasts mountain ranges, heavy skies and vast land. If we are free to roam: Where, then, does the path lead?
  • Nordic Ground
Nordic GroundThis collection of four print designs in alternative colourways was created for the DFS brief - one of the competitions I undertook in my final year as well as working on my own personal project. Researching the consumer and the brand was a really enjoyable part of curating the designs. I wanted to play on the scandinavian trend - thinking about colour and creating a textured print as a focal point, with co-ordinates to sit alongside.
  • Enchanted Escape
Enchanted EscapeThis brief was a multi-diciplinary group project, in which we all produced our own collection of work and bulit a large final body of work from this. The application for the designs is interior prints, for furniture as well as wallpapers. Our visual research came from wild flowers and overgrown gardens, from which we decided upon a colour palette. Getting across the essance of a mystical place in the designs was key. As well as referencing imagery I took inspiration from childhood films such as 'The Secret Garden' and 'FairyTale: A True Story'.

    Student Ambassador
    Nottingham, United KingdomFreelance
My role is to assist prospective students on open days in answering any questions they have about the Textile Design course at NTU or the university in general. I conduct tours of around 10-15 people of the university buildings and the city campus. In addition, organising potential students arriving for their interviews is another aspect of being a Arts student ambassador. Our role in this sense is to conduct tours of the building where the course is based, make the interviewees feel comfortable and answer any questions they may have.

Completing the Design Council Design Academy Competition, was an amazing experience, I learned so much about what design can be, and how important innovative thinkers are in areas requiring a creative solution. At the end of the competition we presented our research and ideas in London and I was part of the winning team, receiving a certificate of commendation.
