My name is Lennard Ewenson and I have now lived in London as of May 2nd 2015 after receiving my two year Tier 5: Youth Mobility Visa. This has given me the opportunity to start the next challenge in my life/career and move to London for the next two years. During this time I hope to further my career and to also experience a new city and culture. After completing my four-year degree; Bachelor of Industrial Design (Honours) at Swinburne University of Technology, I became the full time Industrial Designer at SJ Display Group, who are a Point of Sale company servicing some of Australias largest retail chains including Coles, Kmart, Spotlight Retail Group, Shell Petroleum and many other retailers. Over the past four years with this company I have developed the skills to be a designer in the ‘real world’. Through everyday projects, I have learnt the skills needed to develop a clients briefing into a full production run. Starting with the concept stage all the way through to manufacturing drawings for our Chinese manufacturers, production and quality control checks. I’m currently working for Charterhouse, a 45 year old family owned business who turn over €180m annually and who built their reputation in the printing world. 4 years ago they initiated a Permanent Point of Sale department within their company, with one industrial designer but recently required a second designer with more technical experience. I have worked as their Technical Designer since August 2015, offering my experience and knowledge to build their department to take on more work. Apart from my day to day tasks as a designer, I have also developed and implemented a quality control procedure to maintain a required level of precision and execution for each project. To increase efficiency within our department, I have also extensively investigated and been in contact with 3D Scanner companies to generate an analysis as to whether 3D Scanning would be a viable path for the company. After a short time with Charterhouse, I’ve decided I need a company of which I can grow and develop with. Although I have limited experience as a design manager I would relish the opportunity to prove my capabilities as designer and leader.
