  • • For 11 months I lived in an orphanage called Sevalaya in the rural village of Kasuva, Tiruvallur District, North West of Chennai in Tamil Nadu. • Primarily I worked primarily as an English teacher for students aged 3- 15 but also set up extra-curricular projects in craft, dance and yoga. • I also assisted with the farm and older persons home on the site.

Independent Research Scholarship

  • I was awarded a scholarship to conduct a summer research project for Newcastle University. Under the supervision of Dr Sehrawat, lecturer in Indian history, I designed a project entitled ‘Women in India: The other half’ which involved a trip to Delhi to conduct interviews with contemporary women’s organisations and study at the Nehru Museum and Archives.
