I am an Australian living and studying in England. I am currently completing my Masters in Publishing at Oxford Brookes and am interested in pursuing a career that combines the skills I have learnt during my degree as well as my existing experience in the media when I graduate in May. Whenever anyone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would reply with a bewildered look and a gaping silence. There seemed to be an endless amount of possibilities, each tantalizing in their own way. However, whenever I paused to consider the things I am bone-tingling, heart-warming, palm-sweating passionate about, I always came back to the same things: writing, reading, international relations and the way we produce and consume information. It was these passions that allowed me to be accepted into Georgetown University where I studied under Secretary of State, Madeline Albright and President Obama’s Chief Campaign Advisor, Ron Klain. These passions that drove me to contact the Sydney Morning Herald in the hopes that they’d publish my work – which they did. Somewhere along the way, I realised that I was interested in the cross section between publishing and the media. Thus, I picked up my life and moved to the other side of the world to commence my Masters in Publishing. I am driven, hard working and bright and given the opportunity, I believe I could be an asset to your company.
During my time at Little, Brown I rotated between the Editorial, Marketing and Publicity divisions. I was given numerous responsibilities including proof reading ebooks, writing blurbs, creating marketing content using Phtotoshop and InDesign, and researching publicity avenues.
During my time at Devotion Digital I was tasked with writing and creating newsletters for the company's biggest client. This involved being familiar with CMS, Photoshop and being able to write basic HTML code. In addition to this I acted as a social media manager - updating Facebook, Instagram and websites for AMP Shopping Centres. In order to do this I learnt to use SEO and charting the interaction with various social media posts. I also acted as a receptionist, answering phone calls, scheduling meetings and organising paperwork.
During the summer holidays before beginning the last semester of my undergraduate degree I interned at Channel 10 Late Eyewitness News. I wrote scripts, edited footage and sat in on meetings.
