My role includes assisting the photographer with light setup and positioning. Administration tasks include logging orders, dealing with payments, checking PP’s and back tracking orders. Communicating effectively with the customer ensuring that the photographer is fully aware of the client’s needs. Making assertive decisions quickly when it comes to choosing the most successful shots to show the clients and editing these appropriately on Mac.
Working alongside the team I used my knowledge of colour arrangement and composition to design creative displays, working on window and in-store displays and gift tables. Part of my role was visiting other stores to repeat the displays ensuring every shop was up to date. This taught me the importance of creatively adapting, as available stock would often vary depending on the store. Other day to day duties included general upkeep of all 19 showrooms at the flagship store, stock management, DIY, painting and decorating, dealing with high end clients and bespoke products. I assisted the design team with the opening of a new store in Manchester, where I was trusted to manage and brief staff who newly joined us on the project.
Zed & Co is a modernist furniture company founded by Alan Zoftig. Alan is mostly known for his design of the ‘simplistic airport chair’, used in airports worldwide. I was solely responsible for the overall planning of the exhibition at ExCeL London. I spent my time creating new contacts on behalf of the company and reconnecting with existing ones, talking to high end clients such as Channel 4’s Grand Designs team. This role has given me extensive experience dealing with clients where excellent communication skills are essential.
Working alongside the fabric sourcing team choosing appropriate fabrics for future collections. I attended meetings with mills and clients and assisted with visits to design studios and retailers. Administration duties included liaising with suppliers, chasing bulk and sample orders from various mills and keeping accurate records so bulk orders could be tracked and delivered to the correct department. My extensive knowledge of fabrics and yarns was essential in this role.
Working alongside the print team putting designs into repeat, adjusting and creating fashion prints. I was given the responsibility of completing the design and trend boards for the Red Herring Winter 2017 collection. This included research of trends, fabrics and prints. I presented my findings and ideas to the head designers and buyers which helped me to filter down the research to fit the Debenhams customer.
