I began working as Content Coordinator for ReMark, copywriting for internal and external collaterals, individually managing the social media accounts and collaborating with colleagues to come up with creative marketing ideas. Pleased with my research and blogs, the CEO entrusted me to write both last year and this year’s Global Consumer Study, the firm’s principal thought leadership publication. As a result, I was promoted to Knowledge Manager and now create, curate and manage content across the company’s various platforms on top of my previous responsibilities.
I translated and proofread a huge variety of texts in both French and Spanish, from literary translations to legal documents. This process involved constant internal and external communication, both online and in person. I took the opportunity to sit in with the company’s interpreters during a high-profile court case, attracted by the demanding nature of a discipline which requires excellent communications skills and an ability to perform under pressure.
Studying Spanish from scratch was one of the best decisions I ever made, as embarking upon a new language opened up an entire geography of new literature to study alongside the French currents I already loved. I took cultural studies in both languages, particularly enjoying French identity papers. A highlight for me was my final dissertation, for which I studied and analysed post-Civil War Spanish literature. I loved my course - languages and literature encapsulate what is important to me - reading, writing and lifetime learning.
