In the last 15 years, I have had the luck to work with not only my main hobby in life but also some immensely talented agencies in the creative industry, from the Engine Group/ WCRS, Exposure London & NYC, Start JudgeGill Creative to name a few. Over the past couple of years, I've provided design services to some of the most fantastic brands in the world. Such as Apple, Microsoft, Coca-Cola, Samsung, Bombay Sapphire, Levis, Boots, Bulmers, Bupa, Hibu, Kronenbourg, Mini, BMW, Sky TV, Russian Standard, Santander, Corinthia Hotel, HMRC, The Royal Navy, Capital One, Churchill and much more.
I am responsible for the full creative, design management and design execution of Wingman. From conceptual designs, UI / UX flows, product development, campaign asset management, advertising and PR design output, social networking and brand guardian. I am still actively and physically designing the product and collaterals ‑‑ creating design mockups in response to user data and analytics. I persistently aim to improve retention, usability and user experience by constantly adapting and improving our product. I manage our team internally, encouraging them to push Wingman to its full potential, mentoring junior and mid weight designers to utilise their skills and maximise Wingman’s brand potential, encouraging them to try new UX and UI techniques, leading by example showing fully designed mockups in SKETCH / Photoshop. As well as working closely with our development team in sprints, and delivering considered design responses that are both time sensitive, and mindful of developmental implementation. I report directly to other senior management within the business, about both our design and growth strategy within Wingman. I work closely with our business development teams to ensure we share the same goals and work as a team to deliver results. Being a startup – wearing multiple hats comes as part of the territory, and I’m always willing to push myself and tackle challenges that arise. Having a background in managing a design studio has helped with legal compliance, and understanding the value of strong communication between our corporate/ finance teams and creative.
After leaving the advertising world, I made the decision to gain a better understanding of both business and startup tech culture. SDC was my venture into the start up world, and has been a challenging, yet rewarding experience. SDC started out as a design consultancy, working alongside start-up tech/ product founders and advising on the technical feasibility, and design ramifications on both their product and overall vision. A production element was involved purely on app design, eCommerce, UX and brand. But being effectively a sole design production and consultancy house had it’s limits. Successfully funded in mid 2015, I managed to grow SDC by hiring an in house design team – that helped with the general output of clients. Knowing our strengths, we focused primarily on start up design incubation. Founders would come to us with a vision – and we would help both conceptualise and produce their product to an excellent standard, whilst sharing our network of trusted developers, business development, social, SEO and VC contacts. Collaborating with both developers and designers, we would focus primarily on the quality of the brand and the core values of design as a leading thought to investor decks, brand tone of voice, eCommerce, UX and UI implementation. Our clients ranged from FMCG, tech, fashion, dating, fine arts, food & drink and cosmetics. I have gained a vast amount of knowledge and learnt an incredible amount, that I believe has shaped me into an individual with a unique set of skills.
WCRS was my first step into advertising culture, here I learnt the values of corporate messaging, and it’s impact on design within multiple channels. I was responsible for translating the offline requirements for campaigns into technically feasible advertising solutions for tech. Both mobile and desktop. I worked on a variety of accounts including, but not limited to: Apple, Bupa, Churchill, Sky, Santander, Royal Navy and Warburtons. A strong grasp of both online and offline design methodology was required for this role. A high attention to detail was important and enabled me to appreciate the subtleties of design, and the psychological impact it has on consumer behaviour within the advertising industry. WCRS also required different design disciplines with high attention to detail, craft, brand awareness, advanced knowledge of design applications and strong conceptual abilities. Tasks included digital design for multi-platform devices. Also included above the line art direction/ look and feel for large health care, banking and television organisations. Translation of offline advertising concepts to online campaigns.
Working with the integrated team to create online designs/ design mock ups from offline campaigns, UI/ UX wireframes, design and conceptualising from Pitch to production, creating scamps/ visual mock ups, micro sites, design and craft for production, Mobile/ tablet design. Extensive knowledge on technological integration/ design limitations of design (XBOX Kinect, iPad, iPhone, Android, Windows Phone platforms), knowledge on AR/ QR design and NFC technology. Within the first quarter of 2011 I was sent to spend time in Seattle/ San Fran & New York on Microsoft accounts, dealing directly with the client in Seattle. (4.5 months) Clients include Microsoft (XBOX & Bing), Bulmers, Hunter, Unilever, Jacques, Bombay Sapphire, Martini, 360, Levis and Samsung.
Naked Penguin Boy is a digital communications agency based in Farringdon, London that creates solutions to help some of the world's biggest brands promote their objectives. Clients include bbh, Universal Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Dreamworks, Eidos Interactive, Hit Entertainment USA and many more within the media sector. My time at Naked Penguin Boy was a significant experience within my life, not only did it count towards my sandwich degree, it taught me real values towards how to interact with clients and promote visual, graphic campaigns in a digital form. On top of viral campaigns, I dealt directly with client and agency relations, campaign management and art direction, I also was involved in several Digital PR campaigns.
