I am a Design Graduate with 2 years worth of design experience in both paid placements (during my placement year) & internships. I am fluent in Adobe Creative Suite and am familiar with all aspects of the design process. I recently graduated from Ravensbourne with a 2:1 classification validated by the University of Arts London. I am looking for my next role to develop myself further a a design professional.
Richard Nicoll is a well-established, London Based luxury brand. As a design assistant I have to be flexible and lend my hand to different tasks including but not limited to; creating CAD garment flats and technical specs in Adobe Illustrator, creating promotional artwork, product line management, sourcing fabrics and fabric development, liaising with global factories and suppliers, managing the show room and greeting VIP guests, pattern-cutting, toiling and assisting the designers with mood boards and inspiration, amongst other tasks.
During my university studies I liked to find time to connect with the industry, below are some examples of the freelance work completed in this time: • Creating Illustrations, Artwork & Frame-by-Frame animation for several projects including Ritz Crackers, Gregory Porter & McBusted. • Creation of Look Book and Sales Packs for Ostwald Helgason. • Styling for Basharatyan V at LFW and Corrie Nielsen at PFW as well as several artists such as Rosie Lowe and Southern.
As part of a close-knit team I was given a lot of responsibility in handling different projects. I assisted Beth and Liz Sargent in preparing for editorial shoots, video shoots and fashion shows. My responsibilities included liaising with PRs and clients, calling in garments, Fashion Week coverage, research & mood board creation in Adobe InDesign, as well as graphic design and creating promotional material for clients in Adobe Photoshop. I also assisted and managed on shoots and back stage at fashion shows. It was a very hands-on experience and I had to be prepared to think on my feet.
Ostwald Helgason is a fresh and innovative designer brand; they show at NYFW, PFW and LFW. During my time there I assisted the studio with the design and manufacturing process including: pattern cutting, toile making, fabric sourcing, fittings and factory liaison and visits. I also prepared cool hunting & market research presentations for the designers. I wrote copy for the press release and designed a web content for their new online store www.ostwaldhelgason.com. I also independently supervised a photo shoot for the website. I performed these tasks alongside basic admin duties such as managing the sample flow, updating accounts and organising the studio.
Poeticgem design for most major high street brands globally, including ASOS, ZARA and River Island in the UK. My daily tasks included assisting the Head of Design, this included PA duties and managing clients and meetings. As well as the following daily design tasks; trend and fabric research, creating designs (Jersey, denim & soft-separates), making technical (CAD) drawings and specifications in Adobe Illustrator and liaising with factories offshore. My designs were chosen by independent high-street buyers and where sold in their S/S13 ranges. I have also worked in the Garment Technology department where I controlled the sample flow for the womenswear division, maintained the critical path and attended fit meetings with the buyers to develop the fit and style of the garments.
