23 years old from Lisbon, currently living in London. Recent graduate of Communication and Culture with a passion for the Visual Arts.
Emmaus Lambeth is a homelessness charity with five shops across South London and the Surrey which sell second hand goods. I independently set up and run their online sales sector, which specializes in selling items that bring more revenue to the charity when sold online. My main responsibilities are selecting, researching, taking pictures, writing descriptions and advertising the items on the online selling sites/apps (eBay, Shpock, GumTree and Etsy), as well as maintaining a high standard of communication with the customers throughout the entire sales process and guarantee that every policy is followed accordingly. Furthermore, I keep a detailed track of the sales and expenses using MS Office. Each month I have managed to raise the profit we get from the online sales.
Area Infinitas is a furniture and interiors decoration brand with four shops in Portugal. It was previously owned by Habitat. My main tasks as a shop assistant were customer service and cashier operations as well as assembly and maintenance of furniture, lighting and various items of decoration, basic warehouse operations and basic housekeeping of the shop. I started this job while I was still in university as a way of gaining financial independence from my family and work experience. It allowed me to improve my in-person communication skills, as I dealt with dozens to hundreds of different people everyday and develop multitasking skills, as at that time I was also doing an internship, being a volunteer teacher and finishing my graduate studies. Additionally, it allowed me to improve my time management skills as every task had a very limited time to be performed. Furthermore, it helped me expand my knowledge of good interior design practices.
This curricular internship was made in the framework of the bachelor's degree. Its aim was to understand the functioning of a public cultural institution. I was selected to work at the Camões Library in Lisbon. My main activities were advertising the library’s events and helping its different services, such as children’s area and providing assistance in the use of computers. At the same time I had to develop a thesis relating the institution and the cultural industries. I chose the topic "Library of the XXI century: Insertion of a Public Library on the Cultural Panorama" and explored how the library can maintain and gain more visibility in the cultural industries at the present time (the thesis is in Portuguese but I can translate it to English on request).
I enrolled in this course to further develop my artistic capacities. It promoted the expansion of my cultural, technical and aesthetic horizons, as well as the development of my observational skills and individual expression. Additionally, during the classes there was always a discussion of the main issues of contemporary artistic creation, which helped me acquire more knowledge regarding the Arts world.
This bachelors allowed me to develop theoretical-practical skills concerning the cultural and creative industries, mass media and advertising. Highlighted disciplines are: Cultural Management, Visual Culture, Media Language, Language and Communication, Intercultural Communication and History of the Contemporary Ideas.
