I am a Pakistani-Canadian documentary filmmaker and journalist based in the UK and Pakistan. My work primarily focuses on current affairs, investigative journalism and human rights. In the past, my work has highlighted issues of child marriages, female infanticide, bonded labour and the impact of terrorism on women. My most recent film Discarded Daughters was covered by BBC Woman's Hour, BBC Asian Network and the Guardian which highlighted the documentary as its pick of the day. I also produced and hosted Pakistan: On the Frontlines, an episode for the Emmy-nominated WOMAN by Gloria Steinem. SOC Films is a two-time Academy and Emmy Award-winning documentary production house run by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. My responsibilities included: sourcing stories, finding characters, liaising with clients, applying for film grants, managing budgets, organizing shoots, field production, interviewing characters on and off camera, directing the technical team on location, sitting on edits with the post-production team, and seeing the handover of the final deliverable to the client.
Assisted in the production of content for BBCUrdu.com and script-writing and producing audio material for BBC Urdu’s live radio show Sairbeen which aired every weekday at 3pm.
