I am a Magazine Journalism postgraduate with an excellent literary grounding, and particularly strong skills in online writing, sub-editing, search engine optimisation and social media strategies. I am passionate about lifestyle and culture; particularly literature, fashion, film, travel, photography and music. I thrive on absorbing information, learning about the latest trends and writing original content. I am also interested in video production and broadcast journalism - I strive to learn as much as I can about all aspects of the industry and its future. My strongest working skills include my self-motivation, thoroughness, accuracy, commitment to tasks and creativity.
I currently work part-time in a local bar/restaurant. I work in both the restaurant and behind the bar, serving food and drinks and making cocktails.
I assisted the Mayfair magazine editorial team for an initial three months before being asked to stay another month. I had individual targets for the month and this means I have to liaise with PR companies, source images and write copy – I was responsible for the travel news page, interiors news page and women's style page and in my final month I produced a seven page spread about Savile Row independently. I have also sub-edited the magazine and attended numerous press events. You can view my online portfolio via mariannefrancoise.wordpress.com/journalism.
I wrote freelance for WhatCulture Magazine – an online popular culture magazine. I wrote an average of one feature per week - for which I researched, planned and wrote about subjects independently.
I wrote freelance for Rooms Magazine – an online arts and culture magazine. I wrote an average of two features per week - for which I researched, planned and interviewed subjects independently.
I also contributed to the online magazine uncoverdiscover.com, for which I wrote general interest articles on health, beauty and travel. You can view my articles on my author profile – http://www.uncoverdiscover.com/author/marianned.
I worked for Reiss consistently throughout my University education. This experience has given me an invaluable work ethic and 'real world' experience. I have become a trusted and valuable member of an evolving team and working in retail allows me to indulge my interest in fashion. I have also gained valuable insight into employment practice and procedure and the commitments required when working as part of a team.
I spent one month assisting the online team at Woman & Home magazine. I wrote copy which was published on the website on a daily basis, sourced and edited pictures using photoshop and uploaded my own content on CMS. I became confident with HTML and SEO.
I assisted the fashion desk at Stella by requesting and returning items for shoots and undertaking PA tasks. This was invaluable experience at a national publication, and gave me great insight into the operation of larger magazines. I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the team.
Magazine Journalism Masters, Distinction For my dissertation, I researched, planned and wrote a series of articles on the subject of Ethical Fashion, which totalled 8000 words.
