  • Brutalist London
Brutalist LondonAs much as I adore the pretty buildings of London, the St Paul's Cathedral, or the Victorian mansions of Marylebone to the sweet mews of Notting hill, nothing has gotten me more curious than the Brutalist buildings in the city. Imposing monoliths, quite often overlooked...are sharp, dirty and dangerous. Sometimes they look like structures from a bygone era, at other times they look futuristic. I lived in an estate in Cally road, another large block of uniform tiny window homes. There was a ver
  • The Pratham Awards
The Pratham AwardsThe Pratham Awards UK Pratham is an international charity that has helped over 35 million children across the world learn to read. We created a property for Pratham UK, called 'The Pratham Awards' to honour the women who are contributing to the betterment of children's lives on a daily basis. I came up with the concept of the 'Kite'. It just felt apt, for an award honouring the women, who work tirelessly to secure the freedom and innocence of childhood.
  • Breath & Being
Breath & BeingBreath & Being Tal, the yogini from Liverpool approached us to help her launch her Yoga practice. Tal wanted to emphasis the mental benefits as well as the physical and also highlight the spiritual elements which are an incumbent part of the practice and accessible to all. The ultimate goal is to be able to practice this way of being, this sense of calm, serenity, equanimity off the mat as opposed to just coming for an 1 hour workout and stretch. With this vision in mind, we developed the brand name 'Breath & Being' The next step was to design the logo. I wanted it to be simple as the practice itself, but try and capture the idea of 'breathe and exhale' through the typography. I was able to achieve this in subtlety, by the increased spacing between the alphabets and colour hues, which gives the visual effect of exhaling and feeling lighter.
  • A study in colour : Stokey
A study in colour : StokeyUnlike most London neighbourhoods 'Stokey Village' is peppered with Unchained Eye Candy from end to end. From the Violin to Vinyl to the Vintage, it's home to an eccentric mix of small independent businesses, bookshops, bars and cafe's. Each distinct in flavour and style, yet complementing it's neighbour. With great excitement I embarked on the project of illustrating the indie shops of Stokey, breaking them down to the simplest form: colour
  • Lebara Talk
Lebara TalkThe Lebara brand, caters to the migrant population in the UK and Europe. 'Lebara Talk', is an app, which enables low cost calls, voice and video chat to the UK and other European countries. This is the creative for the launch of the 'Lebara Talk' app Brief: The brief from the client was to create a 'demo video' for the app, but I wanted to push it further and turn it into a simple story instead. We worked with Studio Hansa, and gave this piece a very retro- Wes Anderson look, which I think worked brilliantly to make a rather boring demo video jump out.
  • Bedlam & Boss
Bedlam & BossBedlam & Boss Logo concept and execution for Bedlam & Boss: A creative husband- wife team, who design eclectic home furnishings. The idea was to create a logo that brought alive both their personalities. Lorna, the wife, the wise half. Kay, the husband, wild and crazy. ... and so presenting- the 'Owlthulhu' Inspiration: East London is a great source of inspiration for me. I came across these beautiful paintings by Alexis Diaz in the streets of Brick Lane. I got working on sketches, and finally settled on the owl and the octopus. Client Appreciation: "Mats, annihilated the design from the outset. She completely slayed us with her design and there was very little we changed to the original design. It really captured the spirit of our brief to a tee. Mats was brilliant with communicating with us and went above and beyond with changes- many of which were miniscule!! After the final she has continued to be helpful. She is a brilliant designer and I wouldn't hesitate to work with her again. We love our design!!!" - Lorna Jordan-Kay
