About me
Photographer, Videographer, Marine Biologist, and Divemaster. As a passionate conservationist and storyteller, I'm always looking for ways to increase my science communication skills. I recently made the decision to move to The Perhentian Islands, Malaysia as part of a Conservation Marketing Internship with ecotourism company Ecoteer. Being creatively minded I always want to have something to do, so I often set myself personal projects that test my photographic, video, and design skills. Currently I am working on a monthly magazine, which will be free to view on Issuu, and various photojournalistic projects around Perhentian.
Projects
  • Researching the Reefs
Researching the Reefs'Researching the Reefs' was a project three years in the making and was the culmination of my Masters course. I combined my experiences of my last two years working on a field research station in Honduras with my qualification as a Divemaster to document the conservation issues and highlight research efforts to conserve the fragile habitats.

From May to late July 2017 I worked as an underwater photographer for research organisation Operation Wallacea. The images I shot were primarily used for "Researching the Reefs" a project to document life on a field research station, and for Operation Wallacea's promotional materials.

MSc (Distinction) Biological Photography and ImagingUniversity of Nottingham
     - Nottingham, United Kingdom
A challenging Masters course requiring me to juggle a large number of simultaneous projects whilst learning and improving photography, videography, editing, and communication skills. Projects included the complete production of my own magazine, creation of instructional videos, and putting on a group exhibition to showcase our work to the general public. I was specifically responsible for the marketing the exhibition; communications included social media channels, direct mail and production of printed promotions. I challenged myself further to undertake a final year project which combined my passions for scuba diving, photography, and marine conservation. The result was a book entitled 'Researching the Reefs', which explored the conservation research happening on the island of Utila, Honduras, and won me an award for best project from the University.

Best End of Year ProjectUniversity of Nottingham
End of year projects for the MSc Biological Photography and Imaging are a little different to the average MSc course. Students are required to create a 6000 word, 50 imaged book which explores a scientific subject of their choosing. Not content with taking the easy route, I opted to set myself the challenge of developing my underwater photography skills, whilst writing and designing the project, and working as a Divemaster for Operations Wallacea. The project explored life on a research station, educating readers about coral reefs, the challenges they face, and the research being undertaken to save these fragile habitats. Despite being a huge challenge, the project was a huge success, earning me a distinction and award for best project from the university.
