Mattia Fiumani is a 33-year-old italian-born director and designer. After completing his Architecture Bachelor in Sydney and his Architecture Masters in Switzerland, Mattia worked as an architect before pursuing the film-making career. As an architect he is passionate about living spaces, as he finds homes to be a great example of design, involving both mechanical and decorative elements. A private villa he has designed during his internship in Sydney in 2007 was later shortlisted for the 2012 AIA prize. Initially moved by the desire to further explore the architectural domain, Mattia enrolled in film-making classes at the New York University in 2009, a course during which he has discovered film as a completely new way to explore space. During his period at NYU Mattia has shot 2 music videos and 1 shortfilm, all in 16mm film, with his last shortfilm “27 Down” premiering at Raindance Berlin in 2013. While working for an architectural firm in Cairo, Mattia got asked to make a film about the famous Sakakini Palace, which led to his first documentary. Mattia lived in Berlin for 3 years, a time in which he has worked as a set designer and as a director of photography for several short films, commercials and music videos. Mattia went on directing music videos, commercials and other documentary work, with year 2014 taking him to Hollywood to collaborate with producer Suzanne deLaurentis and to direct “Colonize the Moon”, the psychedelic collaboration with LA hip-hop producer Busdriver. In 2015 Mattia’s screenplay “Footbolitics by Quinto” has been shortlisted by the Sundance Institute to compete for the prestigious Screenwriters Lab 2016. He is currently writing the second draft of the same screenplay while working on 3 original treatments: a sci-fi, a thriller and a western. Mattia’s passion for discovery and research has led him over the years to pursue such sports as surfing and free-diving. During the past 12 years he has lived in several continents and cities, among which Sydney, Cairo, Fiji Islands, Berlin, Lausanne, Glasgow and Lisbon. Los Angeles is where he sees himself working in the future and growing as an artist.
