From March – June 2015, I was able to work at Tandem, a design consultancy working with many clients such as FMCG client: Unilever, Northumbrian Water and SMD. During my time there I was exposed to a variety of projects looking at ideation, design research, concept development, design thinking and human centred design. I worked as a design translator to effectively communicate insights & ideas. Capturing and communicating content in a relevant and engaging way through graphics, film and photography. My time at Tandem helped me to understands the needs of the user and how insights in user behaviour can influence and shape a final idea and design.* I was exposed to a professional working environment in which I communicated with members of the Unilever packaging team and whilst working with SMD, I was able to be present in a presentation with the executives and directors of the company which allowed me the opportunity to chat through certain aspects of the project with them. *Due to the nature of the work I was undertaking I was asked to sign an NDA to confirm that I wouldn’t share details of the projects worked on. Therefore I am unable to show many aspects of the final pieces of work I was involved with as they are live projects which are still being used by clients. Do get in touch if you would like to know more. http://www.tandem-projects.com/#who-we-are https://www.linkedin.com/pub/james-shutt/81/b46/859
During my time at ninefootone, I was given the chance to work on live projects which meant designing new publicity, logos, flyers and more for a range of clients. This was a great experience in many ways, especially in gaining a better appreciation of good typography and typesetting on print based projects. Working for ninefootone allowed me to gain a better understanding of the printing process and the capabilities of offset printing and how valuable a good relationship between designer and printer can be. Working to deadlines and for clients has helped me to be more realistic with the time I can spend on a project and the rate at which the design world moves - hopefully leading to me being more efficient and productive at the work I do! http://www.ninefootone.co.uk
