A dedicated writer who has been writing for a range of publications both in print and online for a number of years. Recently graduated from Coventry University with an upper second-class degree in Journalism and English and last year completed a music journalism boot camp taught by writers belonging to publications such as The Wire, The Quietus and The Guardian. Young and enthusiastic with a keen knowledge and understanding of the current music scene, fashion, popular culture, entertainment and women’s issues with an absolute determination to succeed.
At The Playground, I organise and coordinate everything that happens editorially. This includes: sourcing and publishing news articles, managing a team of writers, creating a maintaining relationships with PR companies and other contacts, finding and creating appropriate content for the website, assuring an in-house style is maintained, creating daily, weekly and monthly editorial targets for the website.
Since beginning working for Music Crown at the age of 17, I have carried out a series of different roles for the company including photographer, freelance music writer and social media and marketing assistant. I have built a strong and trusted relationship with the team at Music Crowns who still regularly re-commission me for freelance work.
Working alongside the team responsible for founding Kiss FM, my (part time) position at Mi Soul required me to create content for their e-magazine and website including single reviews, album reviews, interviews and music news updates. In addition to this, as part of the social media team, my role also includes communicating through social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest) to maximise advertising coverage for the station.
My role was to provide written reviews, usually between 500 and 1,000 words, for clients represented by the company. This includes live events that I attended frequently, and single and album reviews. In addition to my role as the in house staff writer, I also participated in contacting clients, creating contact databases, using social media as means to promote artists and large-scale events and organising and conducting interviews. Since working with Jukebox PR, I have had my writing published on a series of well renowned websites including Data Transmission and have received very positive feedback from clients. Examples of the written work produced for this company are available on request.
As a discovery writer for The Line of Best Fit, my role is to find new music by both signed and unsigned artists and to produce publishable content for the website on a weekly basis.
Whilst studying for my degree, I travelled to New York in order to complete a two-month internship with amusic magazine. Everything from my travel, to accommodation and my position at the company was organised independently. My role was to write single and album reviews as well as attend live gigs and conduct interviews. On returning to the UK, I was asked by Impose Magazine to continue working for them on a freelance basis as their UK correspondent, which I did for the year to follow
Prior to starting my degree at Coventry University, I began my writing career by freelancing for these publications. My role within each of these companies was to write music reviews, attend live events and conduct interviews both via e-mail and through face-to-face interaction. As a young, amateur journalist this tested and honed my journalistic skills and gave me the confidence to move forward with a career within journalism.
