I hold the overall responsibility for the general running of the office: meeting room diary management; being the first point of contact for visitors; answering telephone calls and re-directing to the appropriate person/department; managing and maintaining stock levels; minute taking; coordinating catering, travel and accommodation for employees; acting as secretary to all committees; acting as PA to Chief Executive, Barry Faulkner. As well as managing the CE’s diary I provide secretarial support which includes drafting emails, proofreading, general errands, liaising with special guests for events such as the annual GBGB Awards ceremony. I was in charge of maintaining the guest list: drafting and distributing invitations, being the main point of contact for the event; following up on those who had not rsvp’d and helping to facilitate the running of the event on the night. I have also been asked to assist in the design of posters, certificates and press related paraphernalia for GBGB events and conferences. I was in charge of designing four PowerPoint presentations for the GBGB Annual Awards 2016. I designed the poster for the Retired Greyhound Trust Charity Golf Tournament, as well as the Veterinary CPD certificate. I also designed and formatted a short booklet promoting the sport of Greyhound racing. My administrative experience with GBGB demonstrates my ability to multitask and manage a busy workload; confirms my sound knowledge of MS Office; and proves my insight into marketing and PR responsibilities.
I freelance as content writer for the sister company SeatPlan. I was employed to write 'Show Descriptions’ in the house style: https://seatplan.com/london/rock-of-ages-p62-shaftesbury-theatre/ This role involves being able to follow a brief set by Seatplan (short description, long description etc) adapting my writing style to suit the company voice and format and delivering the copy on a quick turnaround.
I freelance as a theatre reviewer for the sister companies Official Theatre: http://www.officialtheatre.com/london-palladium/cats/review-104/ and Cheap Theatre Tickets: http://www.cheaptheatretickets.com/the-glass-menagerie/reviews/. Review writing for specific websites requires an understanding of audience, brand and a skill at adapting my writing style to suit the website’s voice
As well as assisting and facilitating workshops, auditions and productions my role was also administrative: keeping the actor’s database up to date, manning the company email addresses and assisting with social media and marketing strategies. In regards to a marketing campaign I helped to implement I was integral to the creation of the Bronze, Silver and Gold membership levels for Writer’s Avenue creatives. I saw the conception and deployment of the scheme, helping to implement the incentivastion of the membership. Each membership had different features and benefits for actors, for example a Gold Member would pay a £30 annual subscription and be a “VIP” creative who received feedback on their auditions and would be the first person to find out about upcoming auditions and industry related news. This type of marketing is an example of B2C marketing, persuading actors, writers and creatives to be part of the company, part of the brand.
Having worked in retail for two years at The Body Shop’s flagship store it was part of my role as Customer Consultant (CC) and Competitor Analysist to have a strong understanding of brand identity. As a CC I was a brand ambassador for the company and it was my role not only to sell the products but to promote founder Anita Roddick’s brand ethos: to support community Fairtrade; activate self-esteem; protect the planet; defend human rights and be against animal testing. The way in which I promoted such was to engage customer’s in conversation about the products themselves and their key benefits, features and stories regarding the 26 Fair Trade suppliers and initiatives they work with in over 21 different countries. Furthermore, it was also my role as Competitor Analysist to complete monthly Competitor Analysis sheets on rival brand’s products and to report back to the manager of our store. This role required me to work independently to research and test competitor products, comparing the product themselves, the packaging and the brand identities. My manager also saw my keen interest in progressing beyond a sales role and I was asked upon several occasions to write product reviews/blogs in which I had to test out new products prior to their launch in store. My blogs were published on The Body Shop InTouch system as well as sent internally to the Head Office and management teams, in which I received praise for my product knowledge and writing skill from Head of Retail Academy Tammy Baker.
A yearlong intensive MA degree that instilled me with the knowledge and skill of adapting my writing style to suit multiple mediums. Areas of focus: writing for theatre and film.
