- WHSmith Pen DepartmentDuring my placement year at ARNO GB (a retail design company) I worked with another development designer to create the WHSmith Pen Department. The brief was to Develop and engineer their visual concept renders into a functioning and manufacturable shop display for their four pilot Pen Department stores (Reading store seen right). The project was delivered in under two months and the first four prototypes went into store. A folded sheet steel Gondola frame that can be completely dismantled for transport. The Gondola is shared by all three central units to which all the parts are then fixed. The design allows the users to test out various pens from Sharpie to more premium brands such as Parker. The cupboards hold stock and one side of the Gondola is fitted with WHSmith’s standard back bar and Euro hooks to display a range of products.
