About me
A multi-talented creative with in-depth knowledge of design for ladies wear, menswear & accessories. A graduate of Middlesex University Moni interned at Edward Sexton on Saville Row. Moni has created clothing and handbag ranges for her own labels and directed the graphics and styling elements for look books, website content, and all marketing materials. Technical ability includes product development, hardware design, pattern cutting and sample machining for apparel and leather goods. As a regular contributor to the online sourcing platform Fashion Insiders & Co, Moni was commissioned to write four articles a month on topics ranging from sustainability and the changing face of the couture industry to designer interviews. Presently she is working with start-ups in product development and pattern cutting and in 2019 will be launching a range of pattern making kits for dressmakers who want to learn how to pattern cut. DESIGN I have a continually increasing knowledge and interest in fashion and design stemming from 25 years of experience gained through the design of my own fashion, maternity and accessories collections. Collections were sold to Paul Smith, Harrods, Browns Focus, in Japan and America. A focused and capable project planner, she has worked for both boutique and larger companies, as part of a team of freelance designers and as a sole consultant. Previous clients include: George at Asda (teen-wear), Fortyweeks (maternitywear), Stone-and-Mason (hardware and bag design and development). PATTERN CUTTING My creative pattern cutting career started after I graduated from Middlesex University. I set up my first ladies wear company after successfully selling a menswear item that I'd designed during my final year at University, to Paul Smith, Duffer of St George and Jones. I created the patterns for my collections and sold my ranges to Browns Focus, Koh Samui, Harrods and Barneys, to name a few and also through a Japanese agent. Cutting for accessories was also added to my skillset when I developed items for the Pamela_P bag range. More recently I have been creating patterns, tech packs and specification sheets for start-ups such as Stone-and-Mason (accessories), Modest House (sleepwear) and more established brands such as Topshop Unique (bags). I am the freelance pattern cutter for the sustainable fashion brand Birdsong. I develop all of their new patterns for their Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter collections. My pattern cutting practice, Pattern Cutting Deconstructed offers pattern cutting packages to businesses and individuals. My bridal wear experience is extensive and I have worked with personal clients for the past ten years designing, creating patterns and constructing the dresses. CREATIVE PATTERN CUTTING FOR WOMENSWEAR, ACCESSORIES, BRIDAL WEAR AND CHILDREN’S WEAR Technical Specialities: • Translating sketches into patterns that are easy to read and produce • Flat Pattern Cutting • Draping on the stand • Utilising strong garment construction skills • Organising fit meetings and liaising with the team to make alterations where necessary • Undertaking pattern amendments and improvements • Toile creation • Tech Pack creation • Spec sheet creation EDUCATIONAL PRACTICE AND EXPERIENCE I graduated in 2013 with a Master’s Degree, PGCE from Canterbury Christ Church. Funded by Morley College, this two-year part-time master’s degree was squeezed in and around my busy work schedule. It was an engaging and intensive course that took me through the gamut of core pedagogical theory and its practical application. The PGCE enhanced my presentation skills further and encouraged me to think deeply about my audience, their overall experience, and how I structured and designed my lessons and my materials. I have written and taught various courses in FE and HE in Fashion Design & Accessories, Making and Pattern Cutting to groups of between 5-35 students. I have set targets and guided students in developing both research and practical skills.

Stone & MasonThe Stone and Mason leather goods brand launched in 2018. I worked with them to develop their very basic product into a luxury item. I created the multifunctional interior whose main function was to contain a large selection of toiletries. Patterns and specification sheets were created. My role grew and encompassed the development of the branded hardware. I sourced a UK based company to realise the samples and production and they used their Chinese factory to facilitate this. Pamela_P Design ProjectThe debut collection of bags and brand, PAMELA_P evokes an extraordinary design philosophy and unique edge. The individual undertones of the PAMELA_P brand deeply resonates at the heart of the collection. I have discovered a love for writing since the beginning of 2017. I was asked to contribute to the Fashion Insiders & Co blog on a trial in January and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My vast experience, as a designer and pattern cutter has placed me in the perfect position to write about what I know.
