In this role, I am the public face of Brighton & Hove City Council’s museums service, and promote the work of the Royal Pavilion & Museums and to take an active role in delivering income generating activities. I help to provide a safe, easily accessible and friendly environment for all users, ensuring they enjoy their visit and to support visitor interpretation of the collections. As a member of the Visitor Services & Security team, I also assist in the smooth running of fire and security systems, as well as ensuring the security and safety of the buildings, collections, public and staff. As part of this role I have given a number of short talks to visitors about aspects of the Royal Pavilion & Museums collections. These talks were part of the Pavilion Tales and Bitesize Talks series, taking place at the Royal Pavilion and Brighton Museum & Art Gallery respectively. My talks have been on a diverse range of topics, including: - 'Walk Like An Egyptian: Stereoscopic Photography and Travel to Egypt' (Bitesize Talk) - 'Beside the Seaside: Exploring Brighton through the Panorama' (Pavilion Tale) - 'Festive Feasts: A Regency Christmas Extravagance' (Pavilion Tale) - 'Always Slightly Somewhere Else: Ravilious in Sussex' (Bitesize Talk) - ‘England Expects: The Nelson Lamp at the Royal Pavilion’ (Pavilion Tale) - Pablo Picasso’s visit to Sussex (Bitesize Talk) - Gideon Mantell and nineteenth century fossil hunting (Pavilion Tale) - Queen Victoria’s Christmas at the Royal Pavilion (Pavilion Tale) These talks were part of the Workforce Development scheme, which is funded by Arts Council England. The Workforce Development scheme has also enabled me to gain curatorial and research experience in a museum context, by assisting with the ‘All the King’s Horses’ exhibition at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery; be a delegate at the Sussex Military History Symposium at West Sussex Record Office, Chichester; and attend a Train the Trainer event focussing on Coins and Medals, run by the Money and Medals SSN at the British Museum in London.
