About me
Hello //
I'm Neal Coghlan. I studied graphic design in Sheffield, worked as an animator in London and Sydney and set up a company as a director that has spanned all three places. I have also been making music, performing live as an audio-visual artist across a number of venues and festivals across Europe. I occasionally give a lecture or workshop on what I've been doing/how to do some of the things I do. I love to research and explore, whether it is from my travels or from a book; for me this is as big a part of my work as the creative techniques I practise. I enjoy finding inspiration in as many things as I can and aim to create works that are an inspiration to others.
I have created works of many shapes and sizes, from small scale illustrations to be used as GIFs, design for responsive websites spanning healthcare to hospitality, music videos for some awesome artists, interactive projections that allowed the audience to control the visuals, and a bunch of works that have been projected and projection mapped on huge spaces. This mixing of skills has allowed me to create a unique balance of creativity and technical knowledge to build pieces in a number of different ways.
I'm now back in Sheffield with a studio space; surrounded by my creative gear, a bunch of other creative types and the lush hills of the Peak District and Derbyshire Dales.

Projects
- Circle of Light Festival Moscow 2015Studio Aszyk's entry into the 2015 'Circle of Light' Festival hosted in Moscow, Russia. The piece journeys through some abstract landscapes, from underneath the sea through to futuristic temples whilst encountering some of the abstract pattern-based living masks that inhabit these areas. The 10 min set was performed live (music and visuals) to a panel of judges. No prizes for Aszyk this year but it was an amazing experience being there and a fantastic canvas to project onto!
- Sydney Mardi Gras 2014The opening titles for the Sydney Mardi Gras 2014 tv program for the Australian network SBS2. Building on the established 2014 branding theme of diamonds and kaleidoscopes, we developed a program opener that linked together Mardi Gras imagery such as kissing lips, beating butterfly wings, feathers and festival masks with iconic Sydney imagery such as the Sails of the Opera house. These icons were constructed from fractured diamonds and flourishing decorative lines which finally form the mirrored heart logo of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardigras. backgrounds, lower third straps, transitions and footage windows were also created to complete the graphics package. Aszyk is a multi-disciplinary studio covering areas from design and direction to music and live audio-visual artworks,
We love creating work that is bold, colourful and evokes a feeling of fun. We work hard to play hard, putting in the hours to try out new techniques and understand what's making things tick with the aim of creating something memorable. From tiny GIFs up to huge, building-mapped AV projections, we have the desire and the skills to spread great art and wicked vibes far and wide.
Aszyk has put out an array of projects, from as small as animated GIFs up to giant projection-mapped buildings. Alongside these, Aszyk has also produced an audio-visual show which has been touring Europe, growing with each iteration.
