About me
I am a freelance creative working principally with photography and film, but am able to work within a variety of different creative practices.
I am an 'ideas' person with 25+ years of experience working within the creative industry.
2011 - present
Whilst working for a variety of commercial clients on both photographic, re-touching and design commissions , I have also been working on a fine art project producing work on 19th century photographic equipment under the pseudonym 'Samuel Heracles Gascoigne-Simpson', who as my fictitious great grandfather was a hitherto unknown Victorian eccentric, inventor, photographic pioneer and proto - surrealist. The work has drawn upon my knowledge of photographic history, but has also put my set building, styling and painting skills to the test. So far I have personally staged four solo shows and taken part in three group shows .I've also just been shortlisted for The Young Masters art prize. The work can be viewed at www.bumforthmanor.com
2003 - 2011
I was retained as Creative Director to 'Focus on Imaging' (a previous photographic client) , of which I helped to become Europe's largest annual Photographic and imaging trade show (2004-2012). I was responsible for its artistic direction and advertising including original conception, execution and production. I conceived and shot all of its press and internet advertising, made promotional and corporate videos, appointed and managed a large team of event photographers, videographers and graphic designers. I stood down in late November 2010 to pursue a more varied artistic direction , but retained Focus as client for a further four months to help with the transition to a new team.
During this time I also wrote, directed and produced a number of short films and documentaries.

I worked primarily as a freelance advertising and editorial photographer, shooting above the line advertising campaigns for a diverse client base including British Telecom, Philips, BAT, Marlboro, McVities, Cadbury, GlaxoSmithKline, TSB and Proctor and Gamble. I also was a regular contributor to magazines such as Timeout, FHM, Select, Kerrang! and even Smash Hits!
During this time I was an early pioneer of the digital photographic revolution and was lucky enough to work with sponsorship from Quantel utilising an early 'Paintbox' system.
1989-1991
Commercial photographer mainly working for design agencies, but also undertook a number of P.R , industrial and technical photographic commissions.
