Here's a little bit about me. My name is Nikhil, I'm currently based in London and I've been writing for as long as I can remember, mostly poetry, short stories, and attempted novels in the Spiritual Fantasy genre. I just never thought of writing as a career before, and ventured down the "well-worn" path instead. In spite of this, I was lucky enough to get one of my first novels published in 2011 by a small US-based house, which eventually closed down (not so encouraging). Two years ago I decided to drop out of a Masters at the London School of Economics and have a serious go at writing to see if I could make a living off it. It was and still is the scariest thing ever! But I love to write and that is what keeps me going. I have been freelancing as a ghostwriter (with ups and downs) and it was during a gig that I was acquainted with screenwriting, when an Arizona-based production company asked me to write a short-film script for the short film "To Play with God." I didn't know anything about how to write a screenplay, but I learned by doing and I absolutely fell in love with it. I am now finishing a Screenwriting Course with the New York Film Academy (Online) and I feel more confident with the craft. Currently, I am looking for opportunities: competitions, fellowships, jobs, anything that can get me closer to professional screenwriting (and not dying on a sidewalk with a pen in my hand!). I am currently working on a few personal scripts "on spec," but I am really trying to find a stable job as well and I would love it if it could be something in the industry that will help me to learn (whatever it takes).
