About me

My name is Nina Maria, I am an illustrator from Blackburn who is soon to graduate from the University of Central Lancashire. I specialise in book illustration, character design and editorial. I like my work to be bold and full of colour and I enjoy telling a story with my characters.

  Kenji Design CompetitionI entered a competition for Kenji to design new characters for their packaging, notebooks etc. Even though I unfortunately didn't win, I thoroughly enjoyed this project as it took me out of my comfort zone as I am used to designing human characters mostly. I designed love birds and cat and mouse characters and put them in a storyboard/ game mock-up named "Queen Momo".
• Rose Tinted Glasses"Rose Tinted Glasses" is a short picture book around the theme of toxic relationships and red flags. I wanted this book to have a light hearted approach so I made it colourful with endearing characters and wrote the story in a children's book like manner. It would be great if this book reached out to young girls who are new to love and dating.
• Unplug."Unplug" is a project I worked on for the Creative Conscience competition. I wanted to create illustrations based on the negative effects of social media. I then put these designs into a magazine mock up.

Studied illustration here for the last four years. I enjoyed my time here and believe I have greatly improved my illustration skills on the way. I have experienced the pressure of finishing briefs on time and at a high level. I have also picked up experience with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, etc.
