A PEEK INSIDE MY WORLD Food is close to my heart and the more unusual the better. I love eating out at places I’ve not been to before and experimental cookery. My wife is naturally less adventurous with food but she humours me. My movie tastes are founded in the 80s, think Ferris Beuller, Jackie Chan, Eddie Murphy and Studio Ghibli. I'm a fan of Secret Cinema. My musical tastes are eclectic and I take opportunities to see live music whenever they arise. I am passionate about getting involved with my local church community and year in year out I have helped organise and run residential summer activity camps for 11-14 year olds. THE ROAD BEHIND I took a leap of faith from my job in a University campus library into the world of UX design, ready to transfer the skills I accrued within the Library and Information profession and reacquaint myself with psychology. MY EXPERIENCE AT GENERAL ASSEMBLY Studying at General Assembly has been a whirlwind experience and from day one I was enthralled by the application of psychology to product design. I quickly acclimatised myself to daily stand-ups; lost count of the number of lightbulb moments I had; and developed a strong attachment to sharpies, post it notes and brown paper. I love digging beneath the surface of a problem and getting the obvious out of the way en route to designing intuitive products that simply do the job that people want them to do. THE ROAD AHEAD I am amazed by how much I learnt in a very full ten weeks at General Assembly and I look forward to continuing to apply user centred design to create satisfying user experiences.
Based in Library User Services & Systems, involved in all elements of the day to day running and supervision of Library front of house; involved in processes of conceiving, producing and maintaining Library publicity material; involved with specific projects and working groups.
Responsible for supporting students and training staff in use of e-resources and troubleshooting access issues; cross-departmental work; staffing lending services and reception desk; member of several committees and working groups.
Assisted smooth running of the Education Service- welcoming visitors; answering questions; explaining activities; administrative duties.
Led Springboard Maths courses and Additional Literacy Support courses; general classroom support.
User Experience Design
