Paisley is a designer from London, studying in the Netherlands. Her focus is on visual communication through fashion and costume. Creating conceptual pieces for the emerging world. With a strong fascination for colour and its perception and representation.
From studying Man and Identity Paisley became fascinated by the representation of clothing. Be it subtle or striking. Finding this meaning in garments drew Paisley to study Man, Media and Culture so she could explore the implications of fashion through a wider and more critical field.
Projects
- Sex EducationInspired by traditional children toys, updated for modern day understanding on gender and sexuality. Each doll has a magnet embedded into it, using both the positive and negative poles as as an illustration of sexual attraction. The toys can also be combined in different ways, to let children explore some of different possibilities of physical human gender representation.
- Dressed Resembling A GirlThis is an exploration of femininity, gender and sexual identity. Investigated through the use of apparel, colour and pose. The collection was inspired by stereotypical gendered clothing and silhouettes. Taking American 1950’s fashion as my main influence. Looking at the details and undergarments which create such boundaries. Exacerbating and deviating them away from their origin. Playing with what it means from a women to wear mens clothes and a man to wear womens clothes. The shoot is an exploration of beauty, fragility and power, referencing Greek and Roman statues, as one of the first portrayals of posed beauty. The PreRaphaelites and their viewed female fragility and their fatality with unrequited love. Drag and the power of self objectification.
- Exploration of Green - LightExploration into the additive effect of coloured light. This is an extension my exploration into the colour green. Looking at how light acts differently too paint in portraying colour. Using green and white lights, this is an investigation through composition and distance to see the effects on colours created through light and shadows in a completely white environment.
