I am a passionate person. And this is at the core of my approach to photography and retouching. I take pride in the work that I do. I’m visual, not through training; but by nature. And this is what distinguishes me from my peers in the industry; the artistry in my work. I am meticulous, and this obsessive approach to retouching and editing, in particular, allows me to produce amazing photos. I once spent nearly two hours removing a stray hair from over an eyeball. Were you to look at the photos in magazines and websites from fashion shows I’ve worked, and look at those same shows in my portfolio; you’d immediately see the difference. Whilst almost all other photos have a paparazzi-style, mine still endeavour to highlight the beauty of both the clothing and those who wear them. That is the artistry that distinguishes my work.
Being self-taught on photography has allowed me to resist getting into the mindset that my photos have to abide by a certain set of rules, in order to be good quality. I don’t often follow conventional rules of photography because I never formally learnt them. I definitely know them, and sometimes incorporate them. I understand the importance of lighting, and I am constantly learning how to better utilise it. But I am also unafraid to deviate from the standard. That is where the artistry resides. Whilst most retouchers use Photoshop, I prefer Lightroom because I feel it maintains a more natural and less plasticky look to the model. Being someone who is fascinated by the colours and patterns of human skin, my approach to retouching is to cover blemishes by taking skin from one area of the body with similar flesh patterns and lighting; and superimpose it over another area. Again, this is something that distinguishes my work.
I am punctual. I keep to deadlines without sacrificing the quality of my work. I am able to work under pressure, and can adapt to tough situations. I have a range of work experiences that undergird my professionalism; from retail to travel tech, sales, and public relations. Currently, I work as a Data Support Specialist at a software company. My true passion, however, is the arts.
